I’m going with a big ship big gun doctrine! Take aim at a slow life! ~I was thrown out into space, but I took over a spaceship by coincidence, so I’ll work as a mercenary while playing with the dirt.~ – Chapter 9 – A new daily life and life extension treatment

“Good morning…”

“Morning. It’s a nice morning to start something new.”

I discovered yesterday that entertainment from Earth exists, but not Earth itself. So I decided to put that behind me and make money, and before I knew it, those two had me in a lewd way. I feel like this space is pretty messed up, considering both attacked me on the day they met me.

But it did make me feel better in a lot of ways, so thanks.

Also, well, yesterday I slept on the floor with only a towel between us. If I’m going to start doing this and that from now on, I really do need to work on the interior. And there’s another problem…

“Saratha… I don’t think your tail fits in the shower in the room. Do you want me to bring you water and a towel?”

“Hn, for now, Purification.”

The smell around me weakens, and the sweat on my skin dries.

“Eh!? Was that magic!?”

“Yes, cleaning magic. I can only use daily life magic. Let’s go have breakfast with Kori so we can think about remodeling the interior. I want to bring at least beds, a sofa, and a carpet today.”

Well, I guess. But when I try to go get changed, Saratha holds me.

“So how was I?”

“Please continue taking care of me.”

“Not if your earnings get bad.”

She says while nibbling on my ear. I feel like I’m not going to be able to win against the girls.

▽▽▽

We heat up leftovers of pizza we ordered with cola. I think it’s natural that there’s cola in this space. And pizza.

“I think we have a lot to do today, but I want to get the furniture in order.”

“Ah, that reminds me, the two of us have something to do.”

“Eh~? We do?”

“Move from the room we’re renting.”

“Ah, that’s right. Eh, today?”

Actually, Saratha said she’s one month behind on her rent.

“Again… A month is thirty days, right?”

“I didn’t think she wouldn’t come back.”

It seems she had other expenses this month, so she asked to hold off on the rent for a bit because the laflotty that was supposed to share the rent with her went missing. She thought it was fine, and intended to pay as she left.

“Sorry~. We got some extra income yesterday~. We can make up for it~. Darling~!”

“Fine, but why are you calling me that?”

“It’s fine, right~?”

“She’s just asserting that she’s the main wife, don’t worry about her.”

Kori then hugs me. I see her chest is now bigger than Saratha’s. I’m pretty sure the torture the buttons on her shirt are going through violates some sort of treaty.

“Anyway Saratha, I’ll send ten thousand puni.”

“Wait wait a lot a lot! That’s not money you can just send!”

“Then I’ll send ten thousand and then we can take care of the paperwork. Is it enough?”

“Yes… Okay. It’s enough. We’re not registered in the colony, so we don’t have to pay an emigration tax.”

Saratha puts her hand on her forehead. I see that gesture is universal.

“Sorry Saratha~. Darling’s money sense is numb~.”

“Hn…? Ah, that’s right, ten thousand puni is a lot of money. I have to exchange it to yen or I get confused.”

“Give me a break… You should at least remember that wasting money is bad.”

I just generously handed a million yen. I guess it’s a good time to tell her.

“I actually still have three million puni from yesterday’s bounty.”

“Ah… Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

Saratha is perplexed when I show her my account balance.

“Oh, and I’m sure Kori told you this, but you need to go to the hospital before remodeling. If you get the alliance’s composite vaccine and the life extension treatment you should be fine for now. And do you have a translation implant?”

“I don’t know what that is, so I assume I don’t. Oh? Wait…”

I run to the cockpit, grab what I want, and show them the manual I read, that’s in Japanese.

“This is the lingua franca of the Galactic Credit Union Alliance.”

“The what?”

“Kori, grab him. Let’s get him to the hospital before he grumbles more. Ah, I need to call the landlord and say I’m transferring the money.”

“Yes~! I figured you had an implant because we can talk~. We’ll go to the Mercenary Guild’s hospital~.”

“Wha?”

▽▽▽

The Mercenary Guild is partnered with multiple hospitals. It may seem obvious, but since people can register even without having a vehicle, it doesn’t hurt to have a friendly relationship with hospitals. It gets people a thirty percent discount on treating wounds, and they might foot the bill for serious wounds pending a separate consultation.

Do I have a chance too?

“The guild recommends the composite vaccine, so you’ll definitely get the thirty percent discount. But only ten percent for the life extension treatment.”

“Well, I guess that makes sense. But if I get a thirty percent discount for the composite vaccine, that will be two thousand one hundred puni. That’s a pretty nice price.”

“Those are nanomachines, to be precise. Suffice to say they protect you against all viruses known to the Alliance, but also things from fungi, parasites, and cures allergies. Someone born on a planet like you should know how wonderful it is that someone suffering from hay fever can pay seven thousand puni and never have to worry about it again for the rest of their five hundred year life.”

“That’s true in part.”

I didn’t have hay fever, but I knew someone who suffered from it.

I sit on a recliner, and chat with a mechanical intelligence doctor (who looks ninety percent human but has white ovals where ears should be). I’m also getting a health check up with a thirty percent discount.

“Confirming. Over an estimated five hundred years ago, you were inoculated with alcohol on a primitive planet and lost consciousness. When you came to, you were floating in space lying in a cold sleep capsule. Is this correct?”

“Yes. The Alliance records showed my planet was destroyed.”

“That is unfortunate…. Hm, strange. You have a translation implant in your brain.”

“I assume that’s not all either.”

“Yes… It really is strange. Your genealogy mostly matches records of the time perfectly. Judging by their standard, you are definitely a pure ‘earthling’. I can confirm it matches the genealogy of current earthlings on the genetic data bank of the Galactic Credit union Alliance.”

“I see.”

But then why do I have that translation implant? Is it a conspiracy? Did governments at the time know about the Alliance?

“I am done administering the composite vaccine. This translation implant is genuine. According to the implant’s records, it is over six hundred years old, but… That is all the information I have.”

Six hundred!? I’ve had that in me for so long!? Did it do something to me!?

“Hm, six hundred? How about we take it out and exchange it? You don’t have a warranty, but it will come at no additional cost. They should theoretically last for over a thousand years without any anomalies, but surely you don’t want to test that with your body. I will do it along with the life extension procedure.”

“Please do. I’ve never done this life extension procedure, but are there side effects?”

“I see… Since it is your first time, allow me to explain it first.”

That’s true, I’ve barely heard anything about it.

“Walkers live to be about eighty, but their lives can be extended to about five hundred with their youth intact. They look young even as they die. They feel fine, then they feel a little sick and roll over. An ideal death. They usually receive it in their infancy, and in that case, the government pays for it.”

“So I assume a human like me is pretty rare.”

“Yes. It is quite rare for someone from a primitive planet to earn money on his own. Also, if you have this procedure done as an adult, you will revert to around twenty years old in the space of a few months. Please refrain from doing intense exercise in the next forty-eight hours.”

That short amount of time?

“In reality, all we are doing is administering nanomachines to mess with genes. There will be mostly no strain on the patient, or side-effects. In the nine thousand years since its inception, only five people who had it done in their adulthood suffered side-effects, and did not return to their youth. There were reports that they returned to their youth internally.”

Oh well, that’s fine then.

“What side-effects could happen if I wasn’t an adult?”

“Some brain damage, but within a treatable range. That is all, so please make your payment here. The composite vaccine, life extension procedure, and health check up are all included to a total of a million and five thousand puni.”

“Scary… There you go, a million and five thousand.”

“The life extension procedure is complete. As is the check up, and your body is better than expected. Make sure you use the food printer to have a balanced diet.”

…Ah?

“Wait wait wait, you didn’t do anything.”

“The patient’s guardians, please come in.”

The door to the medical treatment room slides open automatically, and Kori and Saratha come in.

“Hoo~, so that’s what a life extension procedure is like for an adult~!”

“Ah, he’s confused. Don’t worry Genma, we saw the procedure to the end, and the exchange of the translation implant.”

But they didn’t do anything!?

“I think this medical technology is so advanced that you didn’t realize you were anesthetized and woke up.”

“Did that happen!?”

“And you might not have noticed, but you got the composite vaccine while you were talking.”

“Did that happen!!??”

“Video recording data is here. The composite vaccine administration and the life extension procedure were recorded from two points of view. You may take it with you.”

“Did that really happen!? The future is scary!”

“The present, to be more precise. You were treated with elixir on the opening in your head, so your hair has regrown as a bonus.”

“I really appreciate that bonus.”

That really caught me off guard. I look at my phone, and see an hour has passed since the last time I checked, when I paid.
