I got a brave protector ver.5 from the weapon store, same as last time.
Apparently there’s a new model coming next year, so he told me I should wait for it, but this isn’t a car. It’s something I need now.
I wanted something tough, but it would take over twenty million yen to resize armor or a protector, so I wasn’t too keen on it.
That’s not true. When I asked for a twenty million yen armor, the owner got mad and told me no.
Get real, it has to be this rank at most, he said as he took me to the same display case as before.
He told me to pick from there, but this was the one with the most durability that fit me.
The whole deal about the new model is just shop keeper talk to pawn off a cheaper thing on me.
Good grief, he’d be a good match for a certain beggar.
And so, I’m starting my exploration this morning with new equipment.
I buy lunch in the super market and throw it into the Storage Space, buy potions in the guild, and head to the dungeon.
◇ ◇ ◇
The thirty-first floor.
I still can’t find the staircase to the thirty-second floor.
I think I’ve been exploring here for a while, but I haven’t found anything close to it.
I walk as I wonder where it is, and enter a forest. It’s not that big, but as I’m thinking I’ll cross to the other side soon enough, I find four hobgoblins.
One has a longsword, one has an axe, one has a spear, and one has a bow. None of them are armored, wearing unreliable rags.
And yet, they’re better than average with their weapons, so I can’t let my guard down. This would be a tough fight if they were all fully armored.
Good thing they only have weapons.
I create a rock spear and activate a Speed Up magic circle while thinking that, and aim at the most troublesome one, the one with the bow.
I fire my magic at it immediately after seeing it, and it dies without doing anything.
The other three are furious about it, so I take some distance. As I take a big leap to the right, I use Wind Magic against them.
I fire two invisible wind blades, and two are slashed while they’re focused on me.
It lacks the power to sever them, but it’s very effective at dealing damage. Wind Magic is said to be great due to its ease of use.
I leave the longsword and spear ones that are still, and face the axe one.
My greatsword of fortitude clashes against its axe many times.
It’s holding it with both hands, but its moves are clean, and each attack carries enough power that I can’t be careless.
I sweep with my greatsword, flinging it away, and activate Physical Strengthening to slash the axe-wielding hobgoblin.
They use different weapons. I’m impressed by how they fight, and I’m thinking if they faced humanity on equal numbers, humanity would lose.
I’m once again thankful that monsters don’t rush out of the dungeon. If they reached the surface, it would be even worse than the wasteland in Fist of the North Star.
I finish the remaining hobgoblins, collect their weapons, and head towards a mountain.
