I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 49 – Forty-fourth and forty-fifth days – Part two

A little winged devil about thirty centimeters tall shoots a fire ball at me.

I easily dodge it, and pay it back with an earth stake, ending its life.

This is the point where field monsters that can use magic start to appear.

This one’s called imp. A little devil.

Its whole body is black, with red bloodshot eyes, and it has a tail.

It’s cute how it flaps its little wings, but it mercilessly fires magic, so if you let it get close, you might get burned.

Imps can use magic, but their defense is lower than goblins. They’re good at attacking from a distance, and if enough are gathered, they command respectable firepower.

It’s almost night.

It’s nice that I’ve reached the twenty-fourth floor, but even after fighting all those monsters, I haven’t gotten anything.

If I had to pick something, I’d say the way the imps stick their tongues out mockingly is cute.

I even miss my aim because they remind me of my nephew and niece.

After exploring the twenty-fourth floor for a bit, I return to the river on the twenty-third. I’m camping by the river like I planned.

I take my tent out of the Storage Space, and then hear noise behind me.

I turn around, and a green slime pops out from the grass. It’s crazy how these green slimes that shuffle around turn so violent when you attack them.

There are many gathered by the river.

I watch them to see what brought them here, and then see them jump into the river one after the other and sinking to the bottom.

It might be their home.

I’m ready to camp, so I eat a nice meal, and do some embroidery before going to sleep.

It’s become part of my before bed ritual as of late.

I’m using the Sewing skill, but there’s still something fun about making something with my hands.

Especially when I can see myself improving.

Look at this! This rose embroidery!

It took me a mere thirty minutes. This skill is so powerful.

I’m happy with what I made, so I get ready to go to sleep a little early.

I have an interview the day after tomorrow. I’ll go back in the morning and prepare for it.

But when I go to sleep, something disturbs my sleep.

I start hearing cracking noises outside, like something’s being broken.

Not just once, it keeps repeating. Like a nasty wake up call.

And I feel a monster reaction.

I immediately jump out and cover the tent with a wall of Earth Magic. I can see a lot of monsters glaring this way.

I don’t know why they’re not attacking, but it’s nice that they’re waiting for me to prepare.

Once I finish putting on my equipment, I put the tent away in my Storage Space and face the monsters.

I could jump into the river, but there are green slimes there, and I’d be done for if they interpreted the vibrations from when I jumped in as an attack.

It’s best to take down the monsters in front of me.

There are imps, orcs, kobolds, giant spiders, wood golems, and killer bees. And I see many monsters I assume will come later, all ready for battle.

I infuse my greatsword of fortitude with magic energy, and swing an horizontal projectile slash at them.

This is enough to cut some heads in front, but it doesn’t work too well on the golem, as branches grow back from the parts that are severed.

And after my attack, the monsters move out.

The kobold is the fastest. It swings at me with a sword, but not a wide swing, and I cut it down with my greatsword of fortitude.

I kick the next one, and end it with my divine bird boots. Then I throw the corpse at an orc.

I dodge the string a giant spider is shooting from behind me, and stab it with an earth stake. These monsters dodged earth thorns before, but can’t dodge a stake with more power and speed.

The imps shoot magic. Fire, water, stone, and wind. A nasty combination of attacks, but it’s not a big deal if I don’t let them fix their sights on me.

I’m using Physical Strengthening, and that combined with the agility bracelet means they should have a hard time catching me.

Then I bisect a killer bee with a swing of my greatsword and shoot earth bullets at an imp. I was going for its head, but I hit its torso. And when it hits the ground, the other monsters trample it.

A wood golem and orc draw near, a combination of slow and dull monsters. But rather than speed, each attack carries the power to take someone out.

The wood golem stretches one arm horizontally and drops it hard. This attack targets an area, not an individual, and while I block it with my shield, the impact makes me groan.

I send an earth blade flying to sever its arm, and intensify Physical Strengthening to execute a series of attacks to cut it and destroy its core.

The wood golem falls in pieces, but a lot of orcs attack from the side.

I use a lot of earth thorns, but they just look annoyed, and come at me with the thorns still stabbed into them.

I dodge a blunt and powerful attack, and block the ones that follow it with my shield. Then I shoot the head of one off its shoulders with my earth shotgun, and slash three stomachs with a big swing of my greatsword.

I keep using my greatsword, magic, and my divine bird boots, but there’s no end to them.

In fact, I feel like more and more keep coming.

I need to do something, or I’ll run out of stamina.

Well, I feel like I could go until morning, but it’s a pain.

Then I hear a loud roar, and an even larger presence appears.

It’s an orc that’s more than three meters tall.

All it has for equipment on its body is a straw skirt, but its body is bursting with muscles. I feel stuffy just looking at it.

It has a big club on its right hand, and the tower shield I saw recently on its left.

I’m sure this thing is the other monsters’ boss.

I’ve learned a special move recently.

After beating the warrior kobold, I got the Limit Break skill, and the method to use it flowed into my mind.

Limit Break has two abilities.

First, boost the abilities of other skills. I don’t know how much, but for example, spatial Grasp’s diameter increased from five meters to seven meters.

I feel like it still has room to grow, but I think that depends on how I evolve.

Second, by using magic energy, I can exercise power that goes beyond my limits. It boosts my physical abilities and magic, and even temporarily boosts the power of my skills.

And that’s what I’m about to use.

“Limit Break.”

◇ ◇ ◇

Now this is a pile of corpses.

What I see makes me tremble. Even I’m taken aback, and I did this.

The equipment of the big orc is destroyed, and dismantled.

The field monsters aren’t in that horrible of a state, but I beat them to the point where their materials are unusable.

It’s all awful. Even the tower shield memento is destroyed, so I can’t take anything.

I need to rethink this. Honestly, I was drunk on power.

When I used Limit Break, the feeling that I was all powerful took over my brain, and I couldn’t stop myself. Maybe I can overcome this by training my spirit.

Anyway, let’s drink some ant queen honey and calm down.

I let out my kuiiii, feel calmer, and look around.

There’s only one skill orb, and it disappears into my hand.

I hope it’s a skill that’s useful in my interview tomorrow.

I think that as I pick up the pieces of the tower shield.

ーーー

Green slime

A field monster that appears from the twenty-third to the twenty-sixth floors. It has a mild temper, and it’s always either basking in the sunlight or drinking some water. It is not hostile unless attacked, but instantly kills weak opponents who provoke it. With its high magic resistance and attack power, it is the strongest monster until the thirtieth floor.

Normal seekers should evade it.

If an orc throws one, run.

It can be beaten, but the cost is too great, so most ignore them.

(Green slime materials have a greening effect, so they can be sold for a relatively high price.)

ーーー

High orc (unique)

A muscular three meter tall monster.

A being specialized in physical attacks and pure strength. It has resistance to magic, and bullets cannot harm it.

It hunted seekers on the twenty-first to twenty-sixth floors for a long time, but it has been relieved of its duties.

It was this monster that once wiped out Ai honda’s party.
