Today I’m having an interview with a company I sent a resume to a while back, and I drink a cup to go kuii and fire myself up.
I feel like I can do it today.
I open the curtains, and see a downpour. It’s like I’m being told the interview will go well and I’ll become an employee.
It’s still early, but I’ll grab the suit I prepared yesterday and put it on.
Put it on…
Put it…
I can’t fit in it!
What is the meaning of this? I had it refitted when I became round, but it’s like my meat won’t settle in it.
This is weird, so I step on the scale. I haven’t done this in a month, but after running around the dungeon so much, there’s no way I haven’t lost weight.
Let’s see… One hundred thirty-two kilograms.
I destroy my scale.
You’re lying! I moved so much! And I’ve only been eating a little more than usual. It should still not be enough considering how much I exercise.
Is my body just not burning fat…
This all too awful reality almost brings me to my knees, but I can’t go down, so I rouse myself.
I have an interview to attend.
I can’t let myself be discouraged!
I retain my sanity on the brink of madness, and rush to a clothes rental store.
Dammiiiiit!!!

Guardian Holdings (referred to as Guardian HD going forward).
Its main office is relatively close to the dungeon, and I can see the building from the train station.
This company is bigger than Honto and also said to be community-based, and they deal in seeker goods.
As for the products themselves, they’re the weapons and armor in the weapons store I often visit. The iron club I used before, the chest plate and shield I use now, and the helmet were all made by Guardian HD.
Basically, I’m a regular customer. I’ve spent millions on them.
Will that help me get hired if I point it out? Doubt it. If they were that loose with their policies they would’ve gone under already.
I head from the station to Guardian HD, and when I turn around, I see a road that leads to the dungeon.

Yesterday, there was a bit of a commotion when I returned to the guild after finishing my dungeon exploration.
There were people gathered around the harem party.
I asked the receptionist behind the purchasing counter, and I was told the harem party took down a really strong monster.
Ehh… I said, impressed, and when the harem party noticed me, they came to say hello.
Ou, so you took down a really strong monster. Congratulations. Of course an har… Hum, the party I think shows so much promise could achieve such a thing.
Hn? What? It’s too noisy around here, I can’t hear you.
Irregu? How much is regular coffee, you ask?
Go to the convenience store or a cafe, it tends to be about a hundred yen.
No?
Ah, wait!?
As I talked with the harem party, staff from a TV station or something cut in. A beautiful interviewer holding a mic started interviewing them in front of a cameraman.
I didn’t catch what they were saying, but I suppose it wasn’t that important.
I thought about how they had it rough, and left.
◇ ◇ ◇
Then I went to the purchasing counter, this time to sell what I got from this adventurer, and have the cursed accessory I got from that treasure chest appraised.
I had to get it appraised with it still on my neck, and for some reason, that old lady was present.
When I asked why with an air of displeasure, she told me that one was on the house, so I told her to please stay.
That old bag knows her stuff.
Is what I was thinking when I was hit in the stomach with a palm thrust. I guess I said it out loud.
The blow pierced my body, and I took a frightening amount of damage for one hit. Looks like I was right on the money about her.
That old lady is really strong. I shouldn’t mess with her.

Safeguard necklace (cursed)
Has the effect to recover the wearer’s stamina a little.
Restores the wearer to full health one time upon taking fatal damage. This breaks the safeguard necklace, undoing the curse.
Since it is cursed, it cannot be sold.
ーーー
The appraisal told me it’s a pretty good accessory, but I can’t sell it, because it’s cursed.
I asked how much it would be worth if it wasn’t cursed, and I was told quietly that it would be thirty million. This along with the damage from the palm thrust meant I couldn’t get up from the chair.

As I think back to what happened yesterday, I reach Guardian HD.
When I tell the person behind the counter I’m here for the interview, I get a reaction of ‘Eh? You?’ like I’m in the wrong place, but I’m used to it. You people can’t measure my value. You can cry with regret when you eventually discover my awesomeness.
I say with my eyes as I get on the elevator to the tenth floor.
When the elevator door opens, I see over thirty men and women sitting down.
Ah, yes, the back of the line?
Yes, thank you.
I sit on the chair at the back of the line, and the folding chair makes some unpleasant sounds.
I look at the front of the line, and see four people going in that exit ten minutes later. It should take about an hour to get to my turn.
And I’m not the last person here either, more arrive after me. Just how many people are they interviewing today?
Thinking about having to compete here makes me lose my confidence.
I stay put, facing forward and waiting as the line in front of me slowly gets shorter, until it’s finally my turn.
Four of us go in, and the group interview begins.
Excuse me.
Thank you for having me.
Yes, my strengths…
Being in a group of four means I keep my answers short, and I don’t feel them having much of an effect.
The questions are focused on the others, and when I answer them, I only get a ‘yes I see’.
But as I think to myself it’s just going to end like this, the next question grabs my attention.
“We deal in weapons and equipment for seekers. Have you been to the dungeon? If so, what kind of equipment did you use? What did you focus on when picking it?”
Other dungeon related questions come at us, and they’re a little interested when I say I use products from their company.
The others stopped around the tenth floor, so I’m the only one who crossed the twentieth.
Then we talk about skills, and I’m asked if I have Iron Wall or Toughness.
I say I have toughness, and they sound impressed.
Hn?
Could it be…
Did I just do something?
I leave Guardian HD feeling like I really got something out of the very end of the interview.
As I have a late lunch, I get a phone call, and I’m told I’ve been accepted.
◇ ◇ ◇
The twenty-first floor.
Yafui!!
I’m a regular employee!!
An orc passes in front of me, but I’m in a good mood, so I raise my hand and greet it. It passes by me, also looking amused about something.
Bye! Pleasant dreams!
I say to the orc as it loses its head and falls, and feel euphoric as I fight off the seekers coming to attack.
They look like normal rugged seekers, and it’s clear they’re used to performing pincer attacks.
So, why are you attacking me? Keep in mind, saying you thought I was an orc won’t cut it.
Hn. The greatsword again?
I guess people in the know can tell right away it’s valuable.
Maybe I should use something else when there are people around.
Well, that won’t be a problem after today.
I beat half the bandits until they can’t move, and take their potions before leaving.
Taking their weapons last time was a mistake, so if half of them are okay, they can take the others to safety.
And on the way back, I see an orc with something human like in its mouth.

That old bag knows her stuff. -> That old hag knows her stuff.
Thanks.
Old bag can also derogatively refer to an old woman
Thanks for the chapters. Kinda curious here ’bout the company that finally hired MC…we know it’s dealing w/ dungeon…so maybe it’s actually a guild or clan?
