There’s a hotel by a river, and a bell rings in the church by its side.
Today’s Takeshi and Ruri’s wedding, and I’m waiting for the ceremony to start with a soft drink in hand.
Toufu and Hajime are standing by Takeshi’s reception, and Chisato and someone I don’t really know are by Ruri’s.
I’ve been making good money in the dungeon lately, so instead of the usual thirty thousand yen, I’m giving fifty.
I’m splurging a lot.
A lot of people are gathered, waiting for it to start.
People who know each other are chatting, and since the people I know are at the reception, I’m sitting here alone.
As the time approaches, the planner guides us to the chapel.
We go from the hotel to the church, but the sight of the sea from here is so nice, that some people stop.
Maybe the planner expected this, because she starts saying that some people pick this spot because of the scenery.
Once we get to the chapel, I sit at the back row.
Naito is sitting with his family in front, chatting about something.
When it’s time, the pipe organ beckons the door opening, and Takeshi enters.
He looks nervous, and watching him move makes me nervous too.
I do my best not to laugh, as I watch the tuxedo-clad Takeshi.
And then today’s main player, Ruri, makes her entrance.
Ruri looks beautiful in her wedding dress, accompanied by her father as she walks down the aisle. She looks like a real goddess of beauty.
I’m not the only one who thinks so, everyone gasps as if thinking the same.
Ruri lets go of her father’s hand, and takes Takeshi’s.
It’s like a baton pass, as if asking to take care of his daughter and make her happy.
They make their eternal vows in front of the priest and god, and look simply happy as they kiss.
I very much feel like crying.
Although no tears come out.
With the chapel ceremony over, it’s time for the reception.
There’s the flower shower and bouquet toss, but I’m pushed out by the excited crowd and have to step back.
With the start of the reception, both bride and groom are wearing different clothes.
Both move to the stage as old European wedding music plays.
Toufu greets them, representing their friends, and they laugh as they joke a little.
The entertainment is about seekers’ unique talents, as the crowd gets excited about seeing a log split clean in two.
As I watch, I get another beer and help myself to the food.
Chisato is sitting next to me, and she warns me that I’m drinking too much, but I can use Healing Magic if it comes to that, so I tell her it’s fine.
She looks skeptical, but it’s fine. I can let loose on a happy occasion like this. I say as more beer flows into my stomach.
Fun, happy times roll by.
Takeshi is still stiff with nerves, and Ruri looks happy.
Naito teases his older brother, and Hajime is talking with girls.
Toufu takes drinks to toast to the couple, and I suddenly notice Chisato is dead drunk.
Eventually the reception is over, and we talk about moving to an after party.
Apparently they booked a place not too far from here, that we can get to from the hotel by bus.
Let’s go then. I stand up on shaky drunken legs, but Toufu and the others stop me.
Hn? What?
Chisato is too drunk to move?
I can cast Healing Magic!
Eh? Look after her?
What’s up with that? I said I’ll just heal…
Fine.
Go ahead to the after party without us, I… We’ll join you soon.
Go on then.
Don’t apologize, if only I made it there in time…
I watch the five of them go and then face down, not knowing what to do.
“Tanaka, take care of Chisato.”
I hear, and my head jolts up.
I see the five of them at the door of the reception venue.
They have happy smiles on their faces.
And so, I smile back. And see them off with tears coming down my smiling face.
