This is the one week anniversary of my dungeon adventures.
I don’t intend to take a day off or anything, I’m still going to the dungeon.
The reason is simple, I’m supposed to be working, but my losses vastly outweigh my gains. Just yesterday, I bought two fifteen thousand yen neutralizing solutions to beat slimes.
And how much did I make? Ten thousand yen. That’s a loss of twenty thousand.
Hey hey, what’s going on? Aren’t I working here?
Did I fall for a scam? It’s a scary world I’m living in. No wonder there are black companies all over.
◇ ◇ ◇
I pull myself together, and head to the fourth floor.
As before, pill bugs, horned rabbits, and slimes appear here. But from this floor forward, there are also headbats.
They’re not called that because they headbutt, it’s because they’re bats with big heads.
Headbats are slower than normal bats, but their big tough heads they use to attack make them troublesome monsters.
…So they do headbutt.
◇ ◇ ◇
I hear a headbat making an annoying kee kee sound, strike it down with my club, stomp it, and it’s easily taken care of.
That’s about how tough they are.
…It’s probably the weakest one so far.
At least if this was a dark place, they could use the ultrasonic waves bats are known for and attack that way. But in a room that’s brightly lit via electricity, they have nowhere to run, and can be easily beaten.
They really are completely in the wrong place.
Whoever made this dungeon owes the headbats an apology.
◇ ◇ ◇
Now it’s going smoothly.
I beat down horned rabbits and headbats, ignore pill bugs, and run away from slimes.
Ah, I forgot, but I can collect the right fang off a headbat. It’s worth a hundred yen. For some reason, their heads and right fangs are more developed than the rest of their bodies, making them very poorly balanced.
Maybe they know that, because they always attack to the right. But if you take that into account as you attack them, you’re pretty much guaranteed a hit.
As I observe this pattern and advance, I reach the fifth floor.
Oh, there’s nothing here this time.
I head to the staircase, but then notice a lot of presences on the ceiling.
I look up, and see over a hundred headbats looking down on me.
Sigh.
“Of course.”
I hold up my shield and club.
◇ ◇ ◇
It’s a deadly battle. I don’t think I’ve been injured this much in my dungeon career.
My whole body was hit and hurts. I might have broken bones.
My shield is broken, and all my clubs are either bent or broken.
Who said these were the weakest? They hurt a lot.
There are potions that heal wounds, but the cheapest one costs ten thousand yen a piece, so I don’t want to spend the money. Maybe I should have.
Now that the battle is over, I sit on the ground.
I feel like my hand touches a glass ball, but once I raise it, I see nothing there.
Ah, treatment is going to be expensive. This sucks. Will it heal?
I grumble like a baby, when all of a sudden, a faint light heals my wounds.
I wonder what happened, and then notice I can’t move.
I know what this is, I ran out of magic energy.
Did I get another skill?
Anyway…
“I’m saved.”
