I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 29 – Twenty-seventh day

After getting home yesterday, I looked into the self-defense force, and learned that they go all the way to the twentieth floor when training new recruits.

They advance slowly because they go in big groups, but they explore the dungeon safely with the support of the instructors.

The equipment is all supplied to them too, as is everything else they need like food.

So basically, we taxpayers foot the bill.

Kuh! I should’ve kept quiet and at least eaten before I left!

Also, apparently the police also trains in the dungeon. Not in such large numbers, but as average parties.

This might be because their roles are different.

In any case, I think I now know how to set up camp. Now I just need the actual equipment.

My budget is set, but what I want doesn’t exist.

I searched for it in shopping websites too, but the smallest I found were for four people. There was some solo dungeon exploration stuff in auction websites, but it was all regular solo camping stuff that was roughly converted, and while it said it was fit for the dungeon, I don’t trust it.

Should I just try solo camping equipment then?

No no.

What if that kills me? I need at least the bare minimum of safety.

After looking through a few more websites, I find something and stop.

This…

◇ ◇ ◇

The fifteenth floor.

I kick monsters around as I advance, and I really don’t like the encounter rate here.

The other adventurers keep on advancing, but I think this is where not having a party makes a big difference.

Is what I thought until this morning.

Apparently there are monster repellent items. They’re not quite like bug repellent, but they’re disposable items that keep monsters away.

They’re sold in a general store in the shopping mall, and they’re tube-shaped and the size of a pen.

They’re activated by twisting the top, and last three hours. The price is pretty reasonable too, two thousand a piece.

But the effect isn’t all that strong. They make it harder for monsters to spot me from far away, but not when they’re close.

Still, it should halve the encounter rate, so it’s a great effect.

I try activating it, and see it has Monster Barts written on it. This must be the brand name.

And yes, the encounter rate does go down.

I’m impressed, as I kick monsters around.

I grab one that comes at me with my boot talons, and rip it apart.

I skewer a monster, and shotgun one away. Then I swing my greatsword and finish it.

This really is an excellent product. I’m curious about who made it, so I look at it and…

I see it was the Honto corporation.

I put the monster repellent back in my Storage Magic.

◇ ◇ ◇

Idiot!

Why would you not want to fight monsters, your source of income in the dungeon!?

Good grief, you’re here to make money, so why keep monsters away!?

I remember my goal, and keep fighting monsters.
