“So how are monsters distributed?”
“Yes. Starting from the boundary lines, the mountain side is a mix of snakes and boars. If we move in deeper into the mountain, there will only be bears. Outside of the boundary lines, snakes and boars are lined up intermittently. If you write it down, it looks like this.”
“…I see. Then experience tells me snakes and boars will be outside, and bear rare monsters will spawn on the mountain.”
“Seems like it.”
“What are we going to do, darling?”
Ayane excitedly pulls my sleeve. She’s so excited about being on a new floor. But so am I.
“First… I know. Let’s map out that snake region.”
“Your map automatically fills in what you see, right? The trees are taller than Enki, so visibility isn’t good. Isn’t it going to be hard to fill the map?”
Asks Maki.
“No, I can use Hawk Eye while on top of Enki, so it won’t be a problem.”
“What should we do?”
“You can stay on Enki’s hands. It can step on snakes if they’re near. If they manage to climb Enki, one of you who isn’t busy can take care of it.”
‘Goh!’
“Let’s move out!”
“Let’s go!”
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
Hawk Eye is a skill that lets me look down from a bird’s-eye-view on top of me. That’s all it does by itself, but when you combine it with Automatic Mapping, they have great synergy. What I see with Hawk Eye is also reflected on how the map is filled.
When I use this skill, I have two points of view, what I see normally, and what I see through the skill. This puts a strain on my brain, so I normally make sure to take breaks and rest.
But now I’m sitting on Enki, not walking on my own, so I don’t need to use my normal vision. I close my eyes, and just look around with Hawk Eye.
‘Gogo!’
Thud!
I’ve lost count of how many it’s been so far, but Enki stomps on another green snake that crawls on the ground towards us. It’s a stomp by a compressed rock giant that’s over six meters tall. I don’t know how much it weighs exactly, but there’s no way those snakes can handle it. The monster instantly turns to smoke.
Strangely enough, the drops are completely undamaged. I noticed that because Aira jumps down every time to collect them. Apparently when monsters are slain and there’s no space, the smoke moves somewhere else to materialize the items before disappearing.
…What would happen if we placed a pile of rock where rare monsters spawn? Would it slip out and then spawn?
“Ku…”
Thinking about this stuff makes my vision tremble.
This third eye is around ten meters directly above me, and moves when I do, so when I sway like this, it does too.
Ever since I activated Hawk Eye, I’ve been noticing that it feels like strength is being sapped from me.
“…Ahh. Enki, head straight ahead from there.”
‘Goh!’
I contrast it with the map as Automatic Mapping updates it, and gives instructions for Enki to move to the right spaces. This part is easy, and it feels nice to see the map being filled, but I feel like Hawk Eye II uses a lot of magic energy.
I ran out of it before by casting Fireball whenever I felt like it. I felt a worse headache than ever before, dizziness, and felt like vomiting, so I don’t want that to happen again, but I’ve been using the base Hawk Eye all this time.
This skill leveled up when I cleared Unlucky Hall, but its performance changed a little. I’m still looking down from about ten meters up, but I can now move that point of view. By using this, I can look around a wider area, so it might seem like an upgrade, but…
…I’m getting nauseous again! Really nauseous!! Super nauseous!!
“Upuh…”
Normally, when people move their eyes, they’re not consciously moving them. Having to be conscious of that really uses up my nerves, but just moving a third eye that normally shouldn’t be there just feels unpleasant on a visceral level.
Not only that, but when I move it so I’m not at the center, it throws off my balance and it feels like the world is spinning.
Lastly, when I move the point of view, the magic energy consumption shoots up, and the nausea I feel also gets an upgrade. I feel like throwing up for three different reasons. I’ve tried it multiple times, but I can’t see myself getting used to this.
“…Puha! This really makes me feel sick.”
No matter how efficient it is to move my point of view, I can’t take it. It feels like going up to II was a downgrade. Not only does moving the point of view consume more magic energy, but apparently just having that feature increases the consumption.
Basically, even if I don’t use that feature, I’m using more magic energy than when I had the base Hawk Eye.
【Level up】
【Leveled up from eleven to twelve】
I get the message that I leveled up, and the bad feeling that was building up resets.
“Ahh, that’s better.”
I don’t know how many times I’ve leveled up, but this has been repeating.
I level up, and the bad feeling goes away. That means it’s definitely mental exhaustion from a rapid consumption of magic energy. It’s not as bad as when I run out of it, but it looks like Magic Energy Super Recovery can’t keep up with it.
“I thought it’d be easy because I’m sitting down…”
But the world isn’t that nice.
“The bad feeling is gone, but it won’t lift my spirits… Oh well.”
I stop working on the map for a bit and take a break.
