This new equipment really is as light as a feather. Normally it would feel a little heavy, but with these stats, I don’t feel anything even if my bag is packed with iron knives.
Actually, I’m exaggerating. It does feel a little strange, I guess.
Speaking of my bag, they also mentioned it. They said that there’s something I could do about its capacity, but it would also cost money. And since that’s low priority, I’m leaving it for later.
My current equipment is as follows.
Weapon: Fifty thousand yen iron long sword ⇒ Forty million yen sixth generation third ghost type
Equipment: Hundred thousand yen full iron set ⇒ Twelve million fourth generation lightweight hybrid armor Mk.2
“Haha, I really upgraded a lot all of a sudden.”
“Shouta, I brought you lunch like I promised… But what do you want to do?”
Maki’s asking if I want to eat in the dungeon, or come back and have lunch together.
And Aki looks innocent, with that sort of unsure expression.
“Of course I’m coming back. You’re staying too, right Aki?”
“…!! Sure!”
“Fufu, then we will be waiting. Try to be here around half past twelve.”
“All right.”
“Then I’ll see you off with Maki. Today I’m your exclusive here, but there’s no rule that says the proxy can’t accompany me.”
“Good luck out there, Shouta. Don’t work too hard. And… Stay safe.”
I pat Maki’s head to reassure her, and Aki’s too while I’m at it.
Maki seems surprised, but quickly accepts it. And Aki goes without saying.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
As promised, the two beautiful sisters see me off as I enter the dungeon.
This equipment shines, even if you look at it from the sidelines, so it makes it look like I’m about to go to work on the lower levels. But my main hunting ground will be the second floor.
My goals in the morning are to fill the four corners with Automatic Mapping, and face that thing again to check how much my new equipment has changed things.
The second floor really is big, so there’s a lot of distance to cover from corner to corner. Normally it would take more than half a day, but I have the Swift skill.
I want to use this skill, and get used to moving at high speeds and maintaining acceleration to the point where I don’t really get tired.
First, about thirty kilometers per hour. Then forty, then fifty. And then mix in another process when I get used to it.
I’m talking about avoiding killer rabbits, and cutting goblins’ heads as I pass by them. Of course, since I’m not stopping, I have to leave the loot too.
There are three reasons for what I’m doing. First, to practice using my weapon even when I’m in that accelerated state. Second, to fill the map. Third, to hunt a hundred goblins in a row.
Three ducks with one stone.
The drawbacks are that it’s really tiring, and I don’t get any loot.
And when I reach the third corner, it happens. Yes, the sign that a rare monster is appearing.
“It really happens after taking down a hundred of the same monster, with no other monsters in between. There aren’t any annoying restrictions like having to get loot or performing rituals or whatever.”
The smoke wells up, and expands.
“…! It’s happening here!?”
I’m surprised, but there are two possibilities. Either hobgoblins can appear anywhere on the second floor, or they appear in this corner in the first place.
“I hope it’s the latter.”
Otherwise, unlucky adventurers who just happen to be having a good day will find themselves having to fight them. But then there would be more reports of people finding them, so I guess it really is the latter.
Well, that doesn’t matter right now.
“Hey, it’s been a couple of days. How are you doing?”
“Guoooh!!”
Another hobgoblin, exactly the same as the one from before, emerges from the smoke.
So there’s no difference between these two floors?
“Appraisal.”
*****
Name: Hobgoblin
Level: 15
Equipment: Steel great sword.
Skill Super Strength
*****
“The level’s higher!?”
“Guooh!”
“…Oh…”
I brace myself, thinking it will be stronger than before, but I don’t feel at all threatened by its attack, and I easily dodge it.
It really is stronger than the other one. It has more attack power, and it swings its big sword faster, but that’s all. It’s not a threat anymore.
“Guoh! Guoh! Guooh!!”
I watch it attack a few times just to be sure and dodge them, but it really does feel weaker compared to the other time. Maybe I know where its attacks are coming from because of my Perception skill, and that intuition that comes from high Luck.
“Its level is higher, but the second time it’s weaker.”
“Guooo!!”
“Shut up already!”
Whoosh!
The trajectory of my sword beautifully crosses the hobgoblin’s neck. A lot of blood gushes, and it goes down.
【Level up】
【Leveled up from six to eighteen】
“Uwah… This sword is super sharp. I couldn’t tell from fighting goblins, but it cut through those tough muscles like it was nothing… And apparently I get more experience if it has a higher level. Oh, hold on.”
I look at the smoke emerging from the hobgoblin, and take out a timer.
I figure each rare monster takes a different amount of time to disappear.
And I don’t forget to keep some distance, just in case another rare monster spawns.
But the smoke doesn’t swell up, and dissipates like normal.
“…It’s gone. That was about five minutes. I feel like it was longer than on the second floor. So I guess what matters is level, not how big they are, but I need to look more into that.
But if it spawned on the first floor again, it would trouble other adventurers… What if I cut it down the moment it did? But it screams really loudly when it does…”
There’s too much I want to test. This dungeon really is fun.
And then, I look at my new toy, the dropped item.
“I haven’t seen you in two days either.”
I grab the item I let go last time.
“Super Strength. Of course I’ll use it!”
