The smokes on the water slowly approach each other and merge into a giant smoke. It then suddenly swells, and turns into something I think is over thirty meters tall.
“Well, considering the size of the Krakens, it makes sense for the smoke to be this big too, but still…”
“It feels so intense even though it’s still just smoke…!”
“This is a war crime if something master cannot beat emerges.”
“I don’t think it would’ve spawned if it was anyone else in the first place… Right?”
I feel like hearing that makes me want to beat it no matter what.
I’m not conceited or anything, but how strong would an adventurer have to be to beat a monster I can’t beat? The real issue here is that other than Aira, all the strong people I’ve met have been people like Ryuu or my mother-in-law Sakuya. Branch managers who were involved in stopping the first stampede.
“But if there’s going to be another fight above the water… Enki is going to have to sit this one out regardless of how strong the monster is.”
‘Gogo~…’
The fact that Enki has been with me when I fought strong enemies until this point greatly helped me beat them without much of an issue.
And if this is what comes after Krakens… I can see this being pretty rough.
“Give me a golem core and all skills related to water.”
“Very well.”
It’s time to make my fourth friend.
I use Water Current Control, and make the golem core IV recognize the water as its body.
I use the Krakens I fought before as reference, and make it with a jellyfish motif.
‘~~♪’
A new friend is born, and lets out a fine and beautiful sound like it’s singing. Is this its voice?
It has the body of a jellyfish, so I figured it might struggle to move on land, but strangely enough, it floats. I didn’t even give it any skills yet… Did I just picture a floating jellyfish?
“Aira, skills.”
I compress the skills I get, and hand them over. It absorbs them all no questions asked, like it knows what’s happening.
“Your name… Your voice is beautiful, so let’s go with Seren, like a siren.”
‘~~♪’
Name: Seren
Grade: Unique
Core: Golem core IV
Material: Stream magic armor body
Magic energy: 1600
Skills (8/8): Physical Resistance V, Automatic Recovery IV, Chaotic Strength, Adamantine Body II, Divine Spear Techniques Lv4, Destructive Wisdom III, Swimming LvMAX, Muddy Stream Control Lv5
Mermen dropped forty Spear Techniques, and after a ton of compression, the skill Divine Spear Techniques was born. I’m giving it to Seren because I’m picturing it using tentacles as weapons, but… I think from how it swings them that it will be fine. It can thrust really fast by using multiple tentacles as spears.
I try shaking hands with one of its tentacles. When I pet one, it feels slick and jiggly. I could keep touching them for a while if we didn’t have a fight ahead of us.
“Seren is a nice name.”
“Nice to meet you Seren.”
“A jellyfish that floats on land? It feels magical.”
“A new friend!”
‘Gogo!’
‘Popo~.’
‘Pururu.’
‘~~♪’
I’d like to know more about its body, but time won’t allow it.
Crack crack crack.
Once the close to forty meter mass is done swelling, it suddenly starts cracking. I can hear it from here, and it feels like the signal of a new monstrosity being born into this world.
“Here it comes!”
It drops into the water, and slowly, the top half of its body rises.
It’s a giant monster shaped like an octopus.
“First squids, then an octopus?”
“I’m sure that’s a kind of Kraken.”
“Do you know about it?”
“Not really… It’s more like a lot of myths and stories draw Krakens like octopuses.”
“Hm…”
As I make that noise, its eyes suddenly move and it looks straight at us.
“““…!!”””
““Eek.””
Our eyes met.
This is enough to make my whole body want to cower in fear. Like just being here is enough to make me lose my nerve.
But if I back down here, I’m never fighting something like this again.
“Uooooo!!”
I howl to fire myself up, shaking away the fear and focusing on the enemy I have to put down.
“Ahh…”
I look it in the eyes again, but there’s no problem this time. Looks like I’ve conquered that.
I think it’s because of Self Control and Fear Resistance that I managed to muster up my willpower.
“Thank you master.”
“I was about to lose in terms of state of mind.”
I look at them, and it looks like my yell made them not lose their will to fight.
“It’s still a little scary… But I will fight!”
“I’m not going to lose!”
Maki and Ayane rouse themselves and their trembling bodies, and grip their weapons tightly. I want to take them with me so these feelings don’t go to waste, but… There’s a problem.
As far as our fighting power goes, we have Enril who can fly, Aira who can use the footing in front of her and the enemy’s body to fight, Iris who is on my head and can be like a gun battery, and me who can make footing with magic. I’d like to add Ayane’s high magic firepower and Aki and Maki’s combat skills to the mix, and they should be able to fight on the front line for a while with Adamantine Armor, but…
It would be hard for me to make footing for everyone in battle. I can do more now that Parallel Thinking is II, but making footing for three people moving all over the place…
As I think that, my sisters-in-law return.
“Thank you for waiting!”
“We felt something powerful, but that really is an incredible monster.”
“Ah, good timing. Sorry, but can you help? You don’t have to attack, just make footing for the girls.”
“Okay!”
“Leave it to us.”
Takane can use Spatial Magic, and can not only set close to ten, but also give them color so others can see them. And Yukine can use Forbidden Magic, so she can freeze the water to make footing.
I saw some crazy things when we were training, like Yukine using both footing that could and could not be seen, and Yukine using lightning magic on herself to boost her physical abilities.
Both are better at using special spells than I thought. I really appreciate their help.
“Let’s go!”
We all start crossing the sea our own ways.
