“It’s been three days, beginner dungeon.”
I say as I enter the dungeon with Ghost in one hand and Echo in the other.
Even if the Dual Wielding skill has no abilities, it’s simply the sort of thing every guy dreams about. That’s why no one is going to assume I have the Dual Wielding skill just because they see me with two weapons. After all, it makes perfect sense for a guy to try this even if he doesn’t have a skill.
Especially here in a beginner dungeon, where people like to show off.
People that know me think I’m weak, and even the ones who might have suspected that I have that skill after seeing my armor, just look at me with pity when they see my F rank badge.
But even this doesn’t devolve into ridicule, because it’s the sort of thing everyone has experienced at some point. No one wants to rub salt in others’ embarrassing dark history. Even I have a history of dual wielding against slime, so I really get how they feel.
“Well then.”
First, let’s slip into a side path. It’s not like I’m embarrassed or anything, but there’s something I’ve been wanting to try.
“First, Hawk Eye. Uu… Visibility is terrible.”
I’m trying to see if I can detect monsters on the other side of a wall on a cave type floor… And I can’t.
My vision sticks to the ceiling, and I can’t see what’s around me because the ceiling is all lumpy. It’s better to just see with my eyes.
Next, goblins.
“Let’s start with an easy fifty.”
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
“That just about does it.”
I start by spending ten minutes taking down every goblin I see. I’m using Physical Super Strengthening, so I manage to slaughter fifty-four in that short amount of time. It really develops like crazy. It’s like it’s not even my body.
And this also shows me how useful Dual Wielding is.
Up until now, if a monster appeared on the side opposite to my hand holding the sword, I would have to turn and take it down in an awkward position. That meant having to slow down, even though I was using swift to accelerate.
But now I have a weapon in each hand. I can keep going without slowing down no matter where they come from.
Also, small thing, but Dual Wielding makes me ambidextrous.
It really is revolutionary.
“Now onto the second floor.”
I go down, and then to the left to a point where Hobgoblins spawn. My first objective today is to beat one in all four corners, and see if a powered up version spawns.
I have other things to do, but this comes first. If I can make it happen the same way here, that should be one less thing for Youko to worry about.
And so, I make use of Swift II, and hunt the remaining forty-six.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
“And that’s… Forty-six!”
The goblin I cut as I pass by it dies without even realizing what happened to it. But after it turns into green smoke, there’s no rare monster.
It should be a sure thing with my Luck, but there’s no Hobgoblin. Normally I would be shocked, but I saw this coming. In fact, I would be more surprised if one did spawn.
“Yes… The counter starts from zero when I go to a different floor. I figured this would happen, since Hobgoblins have different levels on each floor… And if there are powered up versions on both floors and they count as different trophies… I can’t test that. Not unless they close the dungeon.”
Would adventurer rank be useful here? I think that would be a little outside of its authority… It’s not an all powerful thing… Hm, I don’t know.
“Oh, that could be arranged.”
“Eh?”
Something catches me off guard.
I look at my map, and see no white dots around me, or red dots from monsters for that matter. There’s no one here. And yet, someone just spoke.
I turn to where the voice came from, and as if cutting through the air, two girls appear.
It’s those two I left in the cafe.
“Hello Mister Shouta. I haven’t seen you since earlier today.”
“Wha…”
Why?
How?
Where from?
A lot of questions fly around in my head, but then I remember what Aki and Maki said.
‘…Ah. N-no Shouta, you can’t rest easy yet, she is a stubborn girl.’
‘Once she gets something in her head, she’s not stopping until she’s satisfied. So make sure she doesn’t know your stats. You can’t let her find out you’re not weak.’
She’s stubborn and doesn’t know when to quit.
Sounds like me when I keep investigating stuff about monsters.
“Good grief Mister Shouta, how awful of you. Lying about being weak. How could an adventurer that runs around hunting goblins so quickly be weak?”
“…How long have you…?”
“Since around ‘It’s been three days, beginner dungeon.’”
“So the beginning…”
So their fears weren’t unfounded, and I’ve really caught the eye of a troublesome girl.
Hey, Luck, the one that’s been working for me all this time. Are you sure this is a good thing? This isn’t lucky, it’s the exact opposite, don’t you think…?
