The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 164 – Searching around the ruins again!!

I’m here with the advance party in the ruins that are a proposed new territory.

I peek inside the building we used as a base last time.

“Looks like we can use it as is. There aren’t any signs of damage or anything.”

I say while tapping the walls whose holes we quickly repaired last time.

“Of course. This whole area is protected by a barrier I put in place. Monsters can’t come in here.”

Says Master Halhammer while putting his hands on his hips and puffing out his chest.

“That’s right, I forgot to ask. How are you maintaining a monster repellent barrier over such a large area?”

I thought about it before, but ended up forgetting to ask until now.

“Actually, I just reconnected the broken magic element links on the surface. There should be something deep underground from the time of primordial magic, but I haven’t explored that far.”

Says Master Halhammer while laughing loudly.

I’m sure he’s just hiding his embarrassment.

But speaking as a fellow alchemist, reconnecting magic element links from the time of primordial magic would be absolutely impossible for the average alchemist.

It would be like easily translating an ancient book with pages missing in a way that it becomes easy to read without even noticing anything unusual.

I look at Master Halhammer with an impressed look on my face, as he doesn’t waste time giving instructions to Shellrule and the other alchemists from the Kagero Institute that came with us.

“Master Rust, take care of what we talked about.”

“Yes, I’ll do it right away. We’ll be preparing to explore the underground ruins later, right? Is the center here?”

I ask while leaving the building.

“Yes, I don’t think there’s any problem with the terrain either. If it’s a little off-point, we can move it later, right?”

“I’m aiming for a high degree of freedom.”

“Master Rust, it’s ready.”

Shellrule comes back while I talk with Master Halhammer.

“Thank you Shellrule. Nicely done as always. Wonderful.”

“No, it’s not that big of a…”

Shellrule hangs her head for some reason, and her ears look kind of red.

I put down my backpack, and use both hands to slowly take out the thing Master Halhammer and I transmuted for just this occasion. It’s big enough that it just barely fits in my arms, and it’s as heavy as it looks.

“Everyone, check it out!”

Says Master Halhammer like he’s trying to rouse everyone up. Everyone stops what they’re doing and gathers.

I don’t think it’s that interesting, but it makes it easier to warn them.

“Everyone watch your step, and grab on to something.”

I tell everyone while gently placing the large ‘bamboo shoot’ on the ground.
