The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 194 – Let’s analyze!!

After that unexpected counter-attack, we safely return to Habbafulton.

As soon as we come back, I run to the Kagero Institute’s main office to start working on the most important thing right now, after asking Roa and Taula to report to Kalin for me.

“Gyu!”

I hear Seilook, who apparently is hungry.

It did fly all this time without even taking a break…

I enter the Kagero Institute and see Koto. After quickly greeting him, I throw a potion towards him and rapidly fire instructions at him.

He seems very surprised by all this, but shakes it off quickly and starts moving.

That takes care of Seilook’s food and tending to its scales. Now I have to recalculate Seilook’s cruising speed for long-distance flight…

I take out all sorts of documents with records and spread them on a table.

“Hou, here it is!”

The result is surprising.

Seilook has become a bit slower than after getting its second points, now that it has acquired its fourth points.

I wish I measured after the third points too, but I didn’t have time. If I didn’t have to deal with a certain member of royalty, I could’ve probably done it.

But what’s done is done, so there’s no use in dwelling on it.

By taking Seilook’s cruising speed, putting together Seilook’s flight time I calculated with my pocket watch and the distortion of the ground, and getting a rough approximation of Unknown’s movement speed based on what I investigated where it passed, I can more or less deduce how long it will take for Unknown to get here.

Unknown was traveling here in a straight line. From what I saw, it broke through obstacles without trying to avoid them, but unfortunately the only obstacle in its path here is a river.

I run my pen through a parchment.

Let’s assume Unknown will maintain its speed. It’s best if we assume it won’t drop its speed and consider ourselves lucky if it does.

“All right! I see… Four days…”

I check again to see if I didn’t make any mistakes.

Even taking into account the elapsed time, this is shorter than Taula’s original report, but it can’t be helped. After all, there aren’t really any precise maps of the borderland.

It would’ve probably been very difficult for me to even perform these measurements, if I didn’t have the help of a being that can fly.

Although she was wrong by two days, Taula did a great job. I forgot to ask how she did it, but I’m sure she put her oracle ability to use.

This is when Kalin enters the main office, with Roa and Taula behind her.

I tell everyone the results of my calculations.

“…Rust, this is very helpful, but don’t overdo it. Your talent and diligence are always helping us, but right now I’m more worried about you collapsing. I’ve heard you didn’t even eat anything.”

Kalin sounds concerned. That’s right, I usually eat portable rations while on the move, but even that was hard to do in the air, so I haven’t eaten anything in a while. And I regret that, now that I realize I made Roa go along with it too.

“I’m sorry Roa. I forgot to make time to eat.”

“Yes, I was hungry.”

“That’s right, so come eat too, Rust.”

“No, look, I have to analyze the sample…”

Kalin stands on tiptoe and stretches her back with a full smile on her face, and grabs my shoulders tightly. Her wide open eyes are releasing an intense pressure.

“Master Rust. It’s time to eat.”

“…Yes Lady Kalin.”
