“Ugh… Peh peh. Oh dear, how awful. Where am I? And there I was, just elegantly having tea while watching this from the best seat in the house. I feel like when I was abandoned by god.”
Thin fingers that look like spider legs touch the ground, as the shaman slowly gets up.
What I saw before was an illusion, but this time there’s no doubt that this is the real thing.
That hood was lifted when he was spat out of the core, and his face is exposed as he gets up.
Compared to his spider-like fingers, his face looks very normal. Just an average man without any distinguishable characteristics. If nothing else, his face is that of a normal human.
“Are you a demon?”
Before, when I was going around Unknown, I sneakily spread some scrolls on the ground, and I ask this question without even thinking while making sure they can be activated at any time.
“Demon!? I’m not like that delightfully troublesome bunch. No no, I am nothing more than a simple man. I feel I said this to an alchemist before. Yes yes. Master Rihalzam I believe. That failure. What a disappointment. He was nothing more than a small fry obsessed with his inferiority complex and jealousy towards a younger colleague. It would have been a nice ending for me if he let his negative emotions run wild even more, attained power, and became a demon king. Yes yes, he asked me the same thing when he was still human. What is it with alchemists, asking the same thing?”
He keeps babbling about nonsense I don’t understand, and slowly opening and closing his fingers.
Pure black curses are overflowing from the tips of these fingers.
I give up on trying to get anything meaningful out of him.
“《Composite activation》, 《Combine》.”
The scrolls I placed around the shaman start floating one after the other, and open.
“Still… It won’t end. I wanted it to end right there. Good grief, it’s all so unfortunate. Yes yes.”
The shaman raises his hands high.
“Don’t even think about it! 《Release Limit》, all active scrolls. 《Serial Manifestation》 Rose! 《Fixate》 vines 《Potion》.”
Rose’s vines with a coating of potion fixated on them burst out of the scrolls as if surrounding us.
Those vines have a golden glow thanks to the potion.
I swing my arm and give instructions.
Vines start stretching towards the shaman and wrapping around his hands. The curses shaped like the shaman’s hands are then torn apart by the golden glow of the potion, and disappear.
The shaman sees this, and opens his mouth. I catch a glimpse of something black deep inside it, and swing my arm again.
And just before whatever that is can appear outside, Rose’s vines wrap around his head, covering half of his face, and tighten.
For a moment, he opens his eyes widely with surprise, but then it looks like they’re grinning.
Curses start bubbling from his entire body one after the other.
Even if I drown them out with the potion, I can’t stop them.
Eventually, the potion coating on Rose’s vines starts to peel off, and I throw all the free vines at him.
The shaman is like an onion, with all the vines wrapped around him. But I still can’t stop him. Black curses are leaking out of gaps between vines.
But then, I see someone running towards the vines. It’s Taula with a sword in hand.
