The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 238 – Lily’s wishes

“Don’t be so impatient, Master Rust. Is it because of your genius disposition that you are so hasty in your search for answers? I want to enjoy our conversation for a while longer.”

Says Lily with a teasing tone while looking this way.

Taula and I say nothing in response, and just continue looking at Lily.

I think it’s only natural that our expressions have gotten more stern. And what do you mean genius disposition? I just simply forget to eat and sleep from time to time when I feel like I can push through with my research because I’m too engrossed in it.

“Yes yes, I’ll go straight to the point. I want you to help me destroy god (server).”

Lily ignores our stern expressions, and finally starts talking about the main topic while giggling.

“Blasphemy. Destroy god?”

Taula, the knight priest, says in disgust while glaring at Lily.

“Yes. I know you are a devout believer, Miss Taula. However, the god you believe in is nothing more than a deus ex machina. Nothing more than something that was created.”

“There is nothing to gain from talking to this demon any more.”

Taula says while holding her sword with both hands parallel to her face. The purifying light changes, as it sparks more violently.

Is she waiting for me to tell her to jump at Lily? She really does have no intention of listening to Lily any more.

The way she sticks to her faith so absolutely actually makes someone like me jealous.

“If you were intelligent like Master Rust, you would have at least vaguely noticed it. How twisted this world is. How shallow it is, how it reeks of a sham.”

Says Lily, not concerned with how Taula is ready to fight. In fact, she spreads her arms for some reason, and spins around while looking up.

“This sword that Master Rust has worked on is truly wonderful. This is the possibility to destroy god (server). Something outside of the logic (system) of this world. Master Rust, do you understand? The sword of purifying light that fanatic is holding, can easily slaughter players like us demons, who are caught in the logic (system) of this world.”

Lily knows a lot about my strategy. Is she mentioning that on purpose? Well, I did base my strategy to defeat the ‘Third Seat of Immorality’ on the knowledge of the shaman, so I guess it makes sense. And she also came here with us. I guess it can’t be helped that she knows my strategy.

I continue the conversation, while trying to analyze the situation as best I can.

“And what do I have to gain by helping you destroy said god?”

Now, the problem is that there are too many uncertain factors. From Lily’s point of view, there must be many countermeasures to make sure Taula won’t get near the main body, and to protect it against physical attacks, such as from a sword. But it will be fine as long as we can break through these countermeasures. Lily should have no way to deal with the purifying light. Our goal should remain the same.

“What do you have to gain? A free, godless world, and an everlasting happy life living with a beautiful girl like me.”

“I refuse.”

I reject that proposal immediately. I don’t think I need to pretend to consider it.

“Fufu. I figured that would be your response. Fufufu. What you truly have to gain, is this.”

Lily continues, almost taking my rejection as a joke.
