The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 260 – Another person’s oracle

“What is the matter, Actor Kahelone?”

I’m careful to address her the way Roa told me to.

Her face is still expressionless, but Kahelone’s eyes seem amused as she looks at me. I’m sure she knows I was told to do that.

She’s pretty perceptive.

“There is actually someone in this church who can perform oracles, but…”

“Ooh! Will you please introduce me to this person?”

I ask with enthusiasm. If I can investigate that person’s scripture, it could open a door for me.

“This person is Actor Reese, a talented young lady who is history’s youngest actor. The problem is…”

Kahelone looks down and stops again.

“Problem? Please tell me. If there is anything I can do to help, I will do so to the best of my abilities.”

I propose, and Kahelone…

“I accept your offer. Let me put this away first.”

She locks the box again, and opens the door to call out to someone outside.

The nuns from before take the boxes, and we are asked to follow Kahelone.

We are taken to another room in the church. I’m pretty sure it’s Actor Reese’s room.

After following Kahelone inside, we see a girl in her early teens almost sitting up from a bed, but not quite.

She has a shapely face, that strangely enough reminds me of Taula’s. Her hair is golden too, not too far from Taula’s silver hair.

But her eyes look like they have no strength behind them. She didn’t even react to us entering the room, she’s just staring at nothing.

There is someone sitting next to the bed, no doubt an assistant nun.

I guess we came in right when it’s time to eat. The nun scoops up what looks like stew with a spoon, and carries it to the girl’s mouth.

“This is Actor Reese. The other day, she collapsed suddenly during divine service, and she has been like this since then. No matter how much we try to talk to her, she doesn’t respond at all…”

The assistant nun pulls the spoon out of Actor Reese’s mouth.

Stew starts dripping from the corner of her mouth, and the nun quickly wipes it with a cloth, like she’s used to it.

This pattern repeats a few times.

I see the girl’s throat move from time to time, so she is at least ingesting some of the stew.

Kahelone looks on with anguish in her eyes, and continues.

“Potions finally started circulating again recently, but perhaps because the tremors have wounded many people, there is still a shortage. We have been trying to get our hands on potions through some of our connections, but…”

She says, before looking at me with an expectant expression.

“Understood. I will check her condition first.”

I take out a transcribe scroll, take the place of the nun, who bows and leaves the room, and stand next to Actor Reese.
