“Kahelone, can you step away?”
I say as I take a bloody potion out of my backpack.
I drip it on my right hand, and spread it thinly on the platform where Ghan’s body was.
“Rust, what is that?”
Asks Kahelone while backing away.
The vestiges of curses on the platform react to the bloody potion, and a pale glow appears.
“Eh!? It’s glowing, Rust!”
Just as I thought, the light takes the form of letters. Kahelone stops, probably out of surprise.
I read what’s written there.
“‘Rust Struna Hartnicks, this is your second warning. Back away. Don’t get in the way of my salvation. Don’t meddle with the ones made to die so they could be revived.’”
The message ends there.
Is this the warning Zwei was talking about? It did mention two. If I ignore this warning, am I breaking some sort of restriction that will allow it to attack me directly?
As I stare at the letters, the pale light slowly vanishes.
“Ah, the letters are disappearing. Are you the Rust Struna Hartnicks they mentioned?”
“Yes, there is a being that calls me that. But I’m just Rust.”
“Is that being responsible for this series of events?”
“Probably. At least I think so.”
“I see. And this ‘made to die so they could be revived’ phrase…”
Kahelone says as she points to the letters just as they disappear.
“It’s part of that nursery rhyme.”
“Nursery rhyme? Are you talking about the one that mentions players and the primordial eight!?”
“Yes. This phrase appears at the end. But to think Ghan and the others would be the ones ‘made to die so they could be revived’…”
Kahelone holds her mouth.
“Kahelone?”
“Rust, let’s continue this in my room. Are you done investigating this place?”
“Almost.”
I respond, and Kahelone silently nods. She seems to be trying not to say anything inadvertently, so I finish investigating this room as quickly as I can while trying not to say anything either.
I signal with my eyes that I’m done, and we silently exit the burial chamber.
