“There’s no end to them.”
Roa and I face off against the enemies that keep coming one after the other, as we go down the pit with Rose’s mobile vine spiral staircase.
“And the way they charge at us is dangerous. Roa, did you hear me when I explained the whole thing with the church of Araysla to Kalin?”
“About the praying mantis that took your scroll?”
Roa says as she swings her transmuted beast spear. I see it’s more compatible with Rose than I expected, probably because it’s based on a plant transmuted beast.
The spear weaves through the Spiral Staircase as it stretches and pierces several pill bugs.
Rose seems to favor Roa too. I feel like Rose is attentively supporting her.
Then again, Roa and Rose got along before as well. In fact, Roa seems to get along with all my transmuted beasts.
I sigh on the inside as I deal with the enemies coming my way.
“《Activate》, 《Restrain》, 《Activate》, 《Restrain》. 《Transcribe》… Their vital organs are here.”
I have an opening, so I talk to Roa again.
“Yes, that.”
I say while stabbing enemies after using my new 《Restrain》 scrolls to stop them from moving, and a 《Transcribe》 scroll to check where their vital organs are.
“In any case, being attacked by enemies clad in purifying light is dangerous. Be careful, Roa.”
I say just before several enemies dive from a nearby wall towards me.
But multiple 《Restrain》 scrolls spin in the air and wrap around them. From there, it’s basically just like assembly line work.
Incidentally, these 《Restrain》 scrolls are a by-product of my work to come up with countermeasures against Zwei.
The big difference between these scrolls and others, is that the scrolls themselves don’t have any kind of alchemy in them. Instead, I used a lot of monster materials to make the scrolls as tough as possible.
And this is how I use them. They’re activated and hover in the air, and wrap around nearby enemies to stop them. That’s it.
They’re perfect as tools to assist me in close quarters combat. And since they’re strong, I can even hit with them too.
But… I would have to increase their speed for them to have more of an impact.
I try hitting the next pill bug coming at me from the front with a rolled up scroll just to see how strong it is.
As it is now, the most it can do to an enemy of that mass is knock it back.
I make sure to remember the results of the tests I’m performing with my new scrolls in the middle of battle. I think it will be interesting to make scrolls with more of an emphasis on speed next time.
But then I hear Roa’s voice, with a bit of urgency behind it.
“Master Rust. That mark was made by my sister’s spear!”
Says Roa as she points to a long, vertical mark on the wall where the pill bugs are creeping.
