Hipopo grabs my backpack with its mouth and brings it to me, as I violently cough.
Then I stretch out my trembling arm towards it and take out a potion.
I can’t really put a lot of strength in my fingers… There you go, it’s open…
I can’t drink it while coughing like this, so I pour it on my head.
The potion gets absorbed through my skin, and runs mostly from my head to the rest of my body. I feel like cells in wounded parts are regenerating.
I’m breathing more easily now, and after letting out a sigh of relief, I sit up and drink what’s left of the potion.
“Ahh… That was close…”
“Bumomo…”
Hipopo comes closer with a worried look on its face.
“Thank you Hipopo, you really saved me. I’m fine now.”
“Bumo?”
“Really? Hm… I should drink another one just to be safe.”
I wipe my ear after Hipopo tells me it’s bleeding. Then I take out another potion and gulp it down.
Surely now I really am fine, so I get up. I carefully move my arms and twist my body to check if nothing’s hurting anymore.
“Now that I think about it, did my shoulder hurt because you grabbed me with your mouth and dragged me here?”
“Bumo!”
Hipopo nods.
“Thank you so much. It’s a good thing you’re here. I really didn’t expect to almost die in a place like this… Water sure is scary… Did I rush things too much?”
“Bumo?”
“Well, maybe I should have asked someone who’s good at swimming instead of doing it myself.”
“Bumo bumo.”
Hipopo looks proud, like it’s saying it’s a good swimmer.
“Thanks Hipopo, but it would be hard for you to dig out the dragon spring stone and bring it back with your hooves.”
“Bumo…”
I tap Hipopo’s nose while it looks at its hooves, and I remember the dragon spring stone.
I see something glistening near the pond, walk over to it, and pick it up.
“Here it is. Is this it?”
It’s a half-transparent mineral with magic elements moving slowly inside it. The movement of the magic elements makes it look like it’s throbbing.
