The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 404 – Finishing the cleanup after the storm

“Ahh…”

“Good work.”

I stretch after making the final adjustments on Eve, and hear someone talking to me behind me.

“Ah, Ahri. Same to you.”

“How did it go?”

“Eve’s readjustments went smoothly. Tomorrow morning I’m going to finish the supply of magic elements, and that should allow it to grow the buildings again.”

“That is good to hear. But who would have thought a town could be rebuilt in one night? Here, I brought you tea.”

“Oh, thank you.”

I drink it in one go and turn back to Ahri.

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t take back your magic eye.”

“You did very well, there is no reason to apologize. Also… It was honestly a burden.”

Ahri smiles lightly. I’m sure there’s some truth to that.

“More importantly…”

I can feel the mood around her change.

Ah, not good…

“I-I have to go give Seilook its points.”

I start slowly moving back.

“I see. That is very important.”

Ahri agrees, with a full smile on her face.

“Yes yes. It’s been pestering me about it all this time.”

I start walking, but Ahri is right behind me.

“I will accompany you.”

“D-don’t you have other things to…”

“Everything is done, including the matter of King Kalzart’s remains. We are expecting people from the capital.”

“Ah, I see.”

“One of them is from the church of Araysla.”

“Yes.”

“Actor Kahelone, they said.”

“I see. Things should go smoothly if it’s her.”

“…”

Ahri and I chat as we walk.

Oh? Is nothing going to happen? I thought for sure she was going to get mad at me for going too far again…

We reach the place where Seilook’s house was, and for some reason, Kalin, Roa, and Taula are here too.

“Did something happen? Why are you all here now?”

“Ah, Rust. We were investigating to see if any traces of Zwei were left.”

“Ah, I see.”

It makes sense that she would want Roa’s magic eyes and Taula’s oracle power to help her.

“So, Rust. Where is Zwei anyway?”

“Still north. It doesn’t look like it has moved.”

“I see. I have a bad feeling about that.”

Mumbles Kalin.

“Oh well. And why are you here? Ah, I know. Is it time to give Seilook its points?”

Kalin guesses by how Seilook is stretching its neck.

“That’s the idea.”

I respond, and a half-transparent plate opens between Seilook and me.
