Walking in another world – Chapter 263 – Altair’s dungeon – Part five

“Did it work?”

I turn around and ask, and Chris nods.

“Yes. I didn’t even feel an impact or anything.”

“I see. What about the magic energy?”

“All the magic energy I infused in the bracelet beforehand is gone. And I feel like the shield is still active.”

I look for magic energy with Magic Energy Detection, and see there really is an invisible shield. I reach out towards it, and I can feel something like a layer of magic energy.

When I touch the point where it’s strongest, probably where the shield begins, my hand goes through it with no problem. I still don’t know how it determines what it should block and what it should ignore.

I thought about activation conditions when I was infusing the effect, but it’s still a mystery how it actually works… Not that there’s much point in thinking about it.

“Master, store them.”

I stopped because I started thinking, and Hikari prompts me to put away the blood snakes in the Item Box.

“When are we going to drain their blood?”

Are you looking forward to eating blood snake? I guess we haven’t had it in a while.

“…How about before we go to bed?”

“…Yes.”

I think she paused before answering because she actually wants to eat some now, but we can’t just stop dead in our tracks and start draining their blood here.

I’m sure she understands that.

We continue moving, stop to have lunch, and when we start moving again, we encounter orcs for the second time.

I guess everyone here really has been leveling up, because we take them down pretty easily. I cast Appraisal on everyone, and see that aside from Sera and Hikari, everyone’s level has almost doubled since before we entered Majolica’s dungeon for the first time.

How would I feel if I faced Ignis now? That thought suddenly crosses my mind, but actually, I still don’t think I’d be a match for him.

The pressure I felt from Ignis’ power back then was so intense, that I feel like it’s been carved into my heart.

“And it’s not just about power, I can even cook too…”

We had packed lunches, but I need to prepare dinner.

Dutina tells me to give her stuff back to her, but then I see her taking out preserved food. I tell her I’m cooking, and to put that away.

She’s surprised when I start cooking, and even more surprised when she starts eating.

“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t have something good.”

“I guess, but… I would understand if we were in a base, but cooking in the middle of nowhere like this is unbelievable.”

There’s no doubt that it would take too much time and effort. To be able to cook a proper meal, they’d have to carry around ingredients and equipment, so it’s not an option.

If I didn’t have an Item Box, that would be the first thing I would cut. Actually, I don’t get tired even if I carry a lot of stuff, so maybe that would stay the same.

Hikari and Dutina ask for seconds, and when we’re done eating, we start getting ready to camp.

This season isn’t that cold, so we can just lay down sheets and sleep in our robes.

I could make a house… But I’m refraining from doing that because Dutina is here.

A magic barrier provides some protection, but it will break if something manages to get through it. The real reason why I’m using it in the first place is that I want to spend MP increasing the proficiency of Space-Time Magic.

It’s inefficient as far as how much MP it uses, but it was useful when I fought the bandits, and there’s no doubt that its performance is exceptional.

As for who’s keeping watch, we split into three groups and take turns. I’m on the last shift with Mia and Dutina.

Is that so I can make breakfast?

Before I go to sleep, I blow the smell up into the air with magic, and hand an item bag to Sera. If the blood snakes were done being drained I would’ve put them away, but since they’re not, I ask Sera to do it later.

I sleep well, and only wake up when it’s my turn to keep watch.

When I wake up, I take the item bag with the blood snakes from Hikari and move them to the Item Box, but there are a few kilograms that have already been taken apart too.

I look at Hikari, and she awkwardly looks away. So she was doing that when she was supposed to be keeping watch.

“What am I gonna do with you?”

I say while patting her head and messing up her hair, and she says she’s sorry.

Now it’s time for the three of us to keep watch. I see reactions a little far away on Map, but they’re not moving. The monsters are resting too.

“What happened? Why did Hikari apologize?”

“Ah, she was taking the monsters apart while keeping watch.”

I say to Mia, and Dutina tilts her head.

“She couldn’t help herself. That’s just how much she’s looking forward to it.”

“Well, blood snake meat is pretty tasty. I’ll use some of it for breakfast.”

“I can’t wait.”

Even after Mia explains to her what happened, it doesn’t look like Dutina fully understands it. It’s probably because from her point of view, it’s not that rare of an ingredient.

Eventually the sun begins to rise, and I get busy making breakfast. The other four are drawn in by the smell, and wake up.
