We head to the guild the next morning, and check the hunting quests.
There are goblin and wolf hunting quests, so they accept both.
Rurika, Chris, and I will handle the goblins, and Sera, Hikari, and Mia will go after the wolves.
“It’s just like when we first met, and hunted goblins.”
“Yes. That weak little Sora grew up so nicely.”
“Fufu, that’s true. He seemed so nervous back then.”
Our first goblin hunt feels like it was years ago, but it hasn’t actually been long enough to feel nostalgic about it, has it?
We’re going with this composition because we can’t have a group go out and hunt monsters without someone registered as an adventurer. How would we report who hunted them and get the credit?
I’m in the group hunting goblins, partially because they’re not really the sort of things girls take the initiative to go after, and because we need to burn the bodies.
That’s why Chris is here too.
And since wolves have to be taken apart, I wouldn’t fit that group.
I’m pretty sure Mia is better than me at doing that at this point, and she’s strong enough to not get outdone by wolves too.
“By the way, what were you three talking about last night?”
“Mostly about the home, and about grandma too.”
“The one who made the spirit amulets?”
“Yes, grandma Morrigan.”
“She passed away, right?”
“…? She didn’t. Probably.”
Really? Uh?
“We don’t know where she is. When the town was built to a certain extent, she used to run off somewhere, come back, and repeat. Thinking back now, I think she was looking for people from the village that got separated from us.”
“Yes, and she was really opposed to us becoming adventurers.”
“…And we insisted and troubled her. But we just had to go out looking for them, because Eris and Sera never came back during that time.”
Rurika says as she clenches her fists.
“But not long before we became old enough to register as adventurers, she went somewhere and didn’t come back. She ended up not coming back before we left, and yesterday Filo told us that she didn’t come back after we left either.”
Judging by what Chris and Rurika say, Morrigan is probably out there looking for people from their village. Maybe alone, maybe with a group of people.
But why didn’t she come back? Did she get into some sort of trouble?
“I want to believe she’s fine, but I can’t help being worried either. She was getting up there in terms of age.”
“Fufu, she would get mad if she heard you say that.”
Rurika and Chris joke to try to lighten the mood, because it’s getting a little dark.
They are, aren’t they? Well, Rurika’s face is getting pale, but Chris is laughing.
Afterwards, we find a group of goblins, and take them down.
“I miss the innocence of those days.”
This again? Well, I know she’s joking.
“Let’s burn them.”
We gather all the goblin corpses, and Chris lights them up.
I was going to do it, but she says it’s fine.
Now that I think about it, Chris didn’t use to have a lot of stamina back when we met, but it’s improved drastically.
I think that has to do with exploring the dungeon, but traveling with Rurika probably helped her grow too.
“Hn? What is it? Why are you staring at Chris like that?”
“I was just thinking about how much better her stamina is compared to when we first met.”
My answer kind of takes Rurika aback a little. Was she trying to tease me?
Looking at her like this makes me feel like she’s still kind of hard to figure out.
“Are you making fun of me?”
“I’m not. Let’s go have a look around this area.”
Good call, let’s change the subject!
Although I’m using Map and Presence Detection, and I don’t think there are any monsters around here.
“Yes, I want to check the terrain around here a little more. How about we walk a little?”
“I want to pick some leaves too. Does that sound good?”
I want to collect branches and leaves, because depending on the season, there might not be much to be found.
“To use with the alchemy you were doing last night?”
Asks Chris, and I nod.
She sounds interested, so I explain it while we walk, and she listens to it more intently than I was expecting.
Is the situation over in the home that serious? Or is she just interested in this?
I ask, and she says it’s the latter.
She also says that improving the soil might open up more possibilities for the future of the kids in the home.
Yes, the soil around the town probably isn’t suited for farming. But if they can use something to fix it, they might be able to start thinking about expanding the town.
People either leave or have no choice but to become adventurers, because there’s so little soil they can actually use. Of course, there are also talented people who end up joining the alchemist or chemist guilds, and the ones who can read and write and do calculations might be suited for the merchant guild, but it’s not easy.
I look at Chris’ smiling face in profile, as I think about how she really is kind.
Join my patreon to support me and read ahead.
Is she kind though I don’t. Think she’s done anything to help the people yet its the mc who not personally involved that paid out of his pocket to feed them. I hope he can solve this problem though
Thanks for the treat.
