I’m surprised when I redo the golems the next morning. But then I remember the skills I learned and it makes sense.
The golems can now walk about as fast as a person, so I’m having them walk with me. They’re looking better too, but since they’re the color of dirt, it’s immediately clear that they’re not alive.
For now, I adjust the canine one so its body has black dirt, and put a robe on the humanoid one.
I want to equip them with weapons and defensive gear eventually, but I need to make things that are both sturdy and light. Maybe it’d be faster if I just bought clothes made of monster materials.
I also have them do mock battles when we take breaks, to improve their performance through their learning abilities.
I’m told that I can’t really call it taking a break if I do that, but it’s not like I’m always fighting. We take turns. The same can’t be said for the golems though…
And thanks to that, I find problems.
The first and most glaring, is durability. One hit from Sera mercilessly destroys part of a golem’s body.
I figured that could have to do with not infusing enough magic energy when I made them, but it looks like the magic energy in their bodies is actually decreasing as time passes.
This didn’t happen when I made static things like walls, so maybe they spend energy when they move, much like people.
And by using Magic Energy Detection and watching it closely, I can really see the magic energy gradually decreasing.
Could I infuse them with the Absorption skill so they could take the energy they need from the air?
If they could absorb magic energy from the air, that would be the best solution, but is there even magic energy in the air… I’m pretty sure there is in dungeons and stuff like that…
What about solar power, or something like a battery that can hold magic energy? I don’t think I can make something like that yet.
“Master, aren’t you giving them weapons?”
“I want to eventually, but the best would be shields. I want them to learn more about defense.”
And I want them to focus on defensive techniques rather than how to attack.
I hope that process can be sped up as their learning abilities improve, and the Life Granting skill levels up.
Speaking of which, I check my skills and what skills have improved as they level up.
The first one to come to mind is Transfer. I think the difference is pretty dramatic. At first it let me move things like weapons instantly with magic, but now that it’s sitting at level seven, I can even move people.
Actually, it’s more like it can move me instantly from point A to point B.
Right now, the farthest I can go is a hundred meters. I need to be able to see my destination too, but I can also use it in tandem with Map. And if it’s further than that, it doesn’t work, and spends the MP anyway.
It works on other people too, if they’re touching me. But the more people I use it on, the more magic energy it spends, and the shorter the maximum distance.
It feels like it could be useful to escape in case of emergency.
But if I max it out, would it teleport me to places where I’ve been? That would be so useful.
I’ve been to a lot of towns, and met all kinds of people, including people I’d like to see again.
And since traveling takes a lot of time in this world, I’d be really happy if this skill grew to the point of getting an ability like that.

“Should we end the experiments with the golems for today?”
“How come?”
“We should be reaching the ruins tomorrow, so we should rest.”
I can check reactions with Map, but who knows what might happen, so I seal the golems for now.
We’re going to have more opportunities to use them as we travel, so I’ll just do it then. And if there are too many people on the main road, we can stray off it a bit.
But if we do that and walk on rougher paths, that’s going to put a burden on the others… But on the other hand, I want the golems to learn how to walk on bad paths too.
And the dark forest… I’m sure it’s going to be full of stuff like roots that make it harder to walk, so I’d rather have them get used to it before we get there. Worst case scenario, they’re just going to have to learn on site.
That night, we leave the main road and camp.
We’re finally going to reach the ruins tomorrow, but I wonder what ruins are like in this world.
“How are ruins different from dungeons?”
“I have never visited ruins either, and I haven’t heard about many being discovered either.”
It seems even the knowledgeable Chris doesn’t know.
I didn’t see any books about ruins in the academy’s library either. Then again, I didn’t really look either, because I was looking into something else.
“But are they like dungeons, in that monsters appear?”
“Could be, but…”
Chris grabs her pendant, and looks in the direction of the ruins.
She’s curious about them, but she must also be worried about whether we can even get inside.
The country is investigating them, so I don’t know if regular people like us without any authority can go in. There’s a good chance they’ll just tell us to go away.
Chris knows that too, but she can’t help but be interested in that dream she had.

Thanks for the treat.
The dream must be from the caretaker of the girls. She knew they would come eventually
