There’s a strange feeling of tension in the air. And then it happens.
I start to feel strong magic energy just a bit behind the monsters leading their charge, and then it swirls as it expands and engulfs the monsters.
The monsters inside that vortex… That tornado, are cut, and their blood sprays all over, creating a red rain.
We, the ones watching this unfold right in front of us, are scared in a way. It’s like Tornado, a Wind Magic spell, but its power is on another level. I’m sure it’s Chris’ spirit magic.
And yet, the monsters aren’t stopping. And if they keep charging at this pace, I doubt we’ll be safe.
The other sorcerers also fire magic, intended to stop the monsters in front. They mostly use walls with Earth Magic, that are meant to slow them down rather than take them out.
The idea here is to stop the ones in front so the ones charging behind them hit them.
Goblins and wolves aren’t much of a threat if they charge at us, but I don’t know if even the people using shields can hold off the bigger monsters.
“Charge!”
Signals the beast king, and us, the group fighting at close range, charges forward.
He timed it so it happens just when the sorcerers stop attacking.
I also oblige, and run forward. I can’t be the only person that’s just walking, so I actually run.
However, I slow down as I get closer to the monsters, and I’m back to a walking pace by the time I’m attacking.
My magic energy infused mithril sword is incredibly sharp, and cuts through the thick muscles of an orc general and an ogre like paper.
Argo’s party is surprised when they see this too, but Sera surprises them even more.
She’s making full use of both her axes to not so much cut, but crush the monsters.
Unlike me, she’s sending chunks of meat flying, and the monsters that don’t die instantly are left on the ground writhing. In a way, she’s more gruesome than them.
In fact, I see adventurers fighting alongside us trembling.
The only one who looks amused is the beast king. He’s even praising her. This really is too easy for him.
Eventually, a gong echoes through the battlefield. That’s the signal to retreat, because the sorcerers are ready for the next volley.
We also take as much distance as we can from the monsters.
And then, magic bursts between the monsters again.
Their advance has already been stopped, so this time they’re firing magic that focuses more on power.
There’s also a group of demon sorcerers among them, and their power carves craters into the ground.
“If we had to go against that, we wouldn’t stand a chance even if we had multiple lives…”
Argo’s right, but it probably only looks so powerful because a lot of sorcerers are attacking.
Chris on the other hand, who attacked first, astounded everyone with her power when she attacked alone.
“Let’s finish this!”
The tempest of magic subsides, and we attack the monsters that survived among the corpses to mop them up and finish this.
At this point, some of the smarter monsters are retreating. And since not a lot of us can go after monsters running away at full speed, some manage to get away, but we don’t chase them too far.
But did the monsters that got away leave here with fear of people carved into them, or a grudge… Who knows?
But what I do know is that the advance of the monsters was stopped, and the capital is unharmed.
Well, it’s going to be a lot of trouble cleaning up the corpses and taking care of the craters, but that’s not much compared to people dying.
And the people of the capital cheer when they hear the announcement that the monsters were beaten back.
“I’m glad it ended without much issue.”
It looks like some people got seriously injured, but no one died.
People from the church in the capital are doing their best to help. Miharu’s presence meant everything went smoothly when they were asked to assist.
For now, some of the combatants are going back to the capital, while others are staying here to escort the guild employees.
They can’t leave the monster corpses here, so apparently they’re carrying them away, mostly using item bags.
“Why don’t you help too, Sora?”
Asks Sera, and I think about it. I guess I could store a lot of monsters…
“How about taking turns with Hikari? Oh, and I need to talk to the beast king.”
I want to know if we’re getting a reward for collecting the corpses, and I’m calling Hikari to hear her opinion on what monsters to collect for meat.
I only really care about magic stones, but Hikari would be sad if I said that.
Then I negotiate with the beast king, and collect monster corpses with Hikari. Maybe it would be best if instead of picking which monsters to take, we just collected ones in relatively good condition.
By the time we get back to the castle, it’s late at night and everyone’s asleep.
And tomorrow morning I have to take the monsters I collected in the Item Box to the adventurer guild…
