“Here I was, thinking that this world hadn’t gone to ruin yet, and it turns out to be your doing. Not to mention that two gods descended at the same time.”
Was what the fairy god Tania said after appearing in front of us.
“What do you mean~?”
I asked, and Tania snorted. Then he started saying scornful words towards me.
Ah… Just thinking about it makes me angry. What do you mean, my head’s in the clouds?
Ahem. Anyway, in the middle of what wasn’t really a conversation between Tania and me, I understood something.
This situation was his doing. W-well, to be more precise, Al skillfully led Tania to say it!
What Tania did was steal the power of gods that descended on Archa, made it so we couldn’t return to the divine realm for a while, and created something using us gods while watching us be troubled.
That something was the seven dungeons we couldn’t enter.
He talked about it almost like he was bragging. Yes, he was always like that. Once he got carried away, he even told us things we didn’t ask.
He made dungeons, and used divine power to create vicious living beings… Apparently one of his goals was to create monsters and cause chaos among the people living in Archa.
He started listing off various reasons, but I was tired of listening to him, so I left that to Al.
I mean, I was tired from materializing, you know? What could I do?
Then, it became a battle to stop Tania’s rampage, but Al was the one fighting. And me? I returned to the tree and supported him in my heart. I didn’t have the strength to fight as I was.
If I didn’t become a big tree, I could’ve shot down Tania with magnificent magic as he flew around. Honest.
And even though I couldn’t help, I wasn’t worried anyway. I knew Al would win.
Al was the strongest of the twelve gods.
I don’t know what would’ve happened if Eckel really got serious, but he always liked research more than fighting anyway.
And sure enough, Al was superior when they really started fighting. It wasn’t even close. Tania was fully on defense, and it didn’t seem like he could properly attack at all.
He spoke so much, but that was all he had!
But then, why? As time passed, I became more anxious. After all, I didn’t expect Tania to hold out for so long. It would make sense for the fight to have ended at that point, but it kept going.
And that bad feeling became reality.
“Too bad. That big Alzahak became this weak. Or did I just become too strong?”
Tania’s disquieting words were not just for show, they came from the heart.
And then, the situation flipped, and Al was fully on the defense.
Each attack caused wounds. None were fatal, but his scales were being scraped, and blood was flying.
It felt like the divine power being fired by Tania was getting stronger.
“Did you notice it yet? Yes. This is the power I took from them!”
Tania laughed, and unleashed tremendous power.
But it wasn’t towards Al. The attack was directed at the big tree, me.
“And yet, you keep caring about others. I don’t get those emotions at all! If you didn’t protect that, and instead used the opportunity to attack me, you might’ve beaten me.”
Al covered for me, since I couldn’t move, and suffered a lot of damage.
I was going to tell him I would materialize so he could fight without worrying, but I stopped. I knew it was impossible for him to not worry anyway.
“Boring. Well, how about you disappear here?”
Al resisted those words with all he had. Even though using so much divine power meant that he wouldn’t be able to return to the divine realm.
But that was his choice. He had to stop Tania there, or something even worse would happen.
The last exchange ended with Al’s victory. But Tania was also safe, although badly wounded.
He should have finished him, but Al couldn’t do that. He used that much divine power. But he had to, or he wouldn’t have been able to beat Tania.
Then, after Tania left while refusing to accept his defeat, Al waited for his power to recover a little, and created a dungeon to protect me.
And that is how I… The big tree, came to stand tall here in the deepest part of the dungeon, cut off from the outside world.
Afterwards, Al ran from west to east, and after hearing about this, Eckel also came by once in a while.
He was surprised to hear about Tania, but started some dodgy experiment again as a countermeasure against him.
So Sora, that crystal tree you spoke of… Could it have been born from that research against Tania? I think I remember Eckel telling Al he was going to leave it here, because he had no place to put it.
…What a dangerous thing!
But eventually, Eckel stopped coming by, and Al told me Tania was missing too.
Around that time, I started sleeping a lot, and recovering my power.
Sometimes, the amount of energy in Archa became unstable, so I used my power to fill it, which meant I ended up spending it.
That means that was the last of what Sora called divine tree fruit.
And as I’m thinking about all this, I sense a presence, and turn around.
Just as I expected, Chris is standing there.
