Walking in another world – Chapter 441 – Border city Saruju

After stocking up on equipment and food in the capital, Flamen, it takes us five days to walk to Saruju.

On the way there, there’s a rocky mountain to the right, and a grassy field to the left, so we get to watch two completely different kinds of scenery, with the road serving as a border.

But Rurika also tells us that while it’s difficult for people to live on the rocky mountain side, we should be careful because that also means that it’s common for bandits to use it as their base.

She’s mostly talking to Mia. It’s more of a warning for travelers, and less for adventurers. And since it’s easy to spot people during the day, it’s during the night that we really need to be careful.

There’s some distance from the road to the rocky mountain, so they’d stand out a lot if they tried to come to us during the day.

“Would we be able to learn that sort of thing by asking in the guild?”

“They’ll mostly tell you. You could also ask gatekeepers in towns. Just avoid doing it early in the morning or in the evening, because that’s when they’re busiest, and you’d be bothering them. And when there are a lot of people in line.”

Mia listens, and nods a few times.

If we go west from Saruju, we’ll reach the Holy Kingdom, and by following the road stretching to the northwest, we’ll reach the town where the dungeon is.

The dungeon in the Republic of Eldo is inside the rocky mountain, so the town itself isn’t too big. Because of this, merchants don’t go out of their way to go buy things there, and instead, materials are transported to Saruju. That’s why Saruju is so developed.

Incidentally, we’d have to pass by Saruju if we were going to that dungeon.

“There are a lot of people here.”

“It’s really bustling.”

Mia grabs Hikari’s hand, and Sera’s eyes are open wide as she looks at the crowd of people.

It’s Rurika and Chris’ first time here too, so they’re also a little surprised.

“How about we start by going to the adventurer guild and selling the monsters there?”

We came across and hunted wolves on the way here.

“Are you really selling those?”

Asks Mia, sounding unsure.

She just became an adventurer, so Rurika and Hikari taught her how to take them apart. She had a little bit of experience with it before, but she’s full of motivation because she just registered as an adventurer. Although it’s not like she wasn’t serious about it before either.

I’m not one to talk but… Yes, let’s just say Mia did her best.

Wolf meat and materials can be kept for food, and Mia could make clothes with the fur. But considering how things will be, I want them to be traded in for money whenever it’s possible.

Precious materials are a different story, of course, but she’s not a slave anymore, so she should take care of her own money.

“Hikari, you also need to spend money on stuff like equipment, and not just food.”

Hikari turns and listens to Rurika.

Then we take the money in the adventurer guild, pay for an inn, and walk around town.

Of course, we go around stalls, but this is a tradition that isn’t going anywhere. Although, Hikari usually buys meat skewers any time she sees them, but she seems to have really listened to Rurika, and only buys things after really looking at them and making a decision.

As I watch that, I decide to buy a type of food no one has touched yet.

After everyone gets their food, we sit in a corner of a place made for people to hang out and rest, and eat.

This is what I’d call a park in my old world, and surprisingly, this is my first time seeing one here.

I look around, and see people eating like us, napping, and in one area I see adventurers drinking and having fun. There aren’t just humans either. I see a lot of beast people, and they’re all having fun together.

We also share our food as we eat, and I buy more of particularly tasty stuff to keep in the Item Box, before we head back to the inn. This way, we can eat it again when we feel like it, and Elsa and Alto can have it too when we reach Majolica.

I also bought local specialties, but… Those have a peculiar taste, so they might not like them.

We return to the inn after walking around town, use Purification Magic to clean ourselves after entering the room, and check our stuff.

Everyone has an item bag, so they’re checking things like disposable items.

We haven’t used any potions since leaving Nahal, so we don’t need to restock.

We also check our equipment. We did it after fighting the wolves too, but doing it without rushing in town is different. We have spares too, so we could change right away if there’s a problem, but we should prevent that from happening. It would be dangerous if our weapons or equipment went bad while fighting bandits or monsters.

We also need to be careful about soles wearing out due to friction, because that’s going to lead to our feet hurting. It’s hard for me to notice that sort of thing while walking, so there have been times when I walked on worn down soles. Natural Recovery Boost means it didn’t hurt, but without the grip strength of the soles, it makes it hard to plant my feet on the ground.

Mia is also checking her stuff intently, while asking questions here and there.

After we’re done, we eat here in the inn, and go to bed.

Come to think of it, how far have Kotori and the others gotten? They might be in the middle of an escorting quest, so I should probably not contact her.

I did tell her to avoid using the communications device in front of other people.
