Orc types appear in the thirtieth floor boss room, and the boss itself is either an orc king or an orclord.
They have with them generals, mages, archers, and warriors, but apparently their numbers change from time to time.
This time, it’s an orc king with four generals, ten mages, ten archers, and thirty warriors.
Hikari looks raring to go when she sees them. It’s because orc meat is so popular… It might not be as good as the monster meat I currently have in the Item Box though.
“No fire magic, mainly from Chris and Yu!”
Someone says before we fight.
Well, I’ve been practicing using a shield too, so I’m also going in front. And I can leave the golems to cover the back row.
But since they’re still not too sure, Jin is staying back too.
“Let’s go!”
Says Siphon loudly. He’s fired up.
It’s because he didn’t get to do anything last time… Not that anyone did.
Geitz and I stop the charge of the warriors with our shields, and provoke them to attract their attention. This is a technique I learned when I learned Shieldmaster. It basically draws monsters’ aggro to stop others from being attacked.
We’re suddenly surrounded by five warriors, but Geitz holds firm and deals with all of their attacks.
I’m not that good, so I block attacks with my shield while trying to counter with my sword.
Then we move so we don’t get stuck in the same place, and put pressure on them while dodging. That way, we can dull their moves and make things easier for us.
And while the warriors are focused on us, Sera and Siphon sweep in from the side and crush them.
Olga is a scout who can use various weapons, but this time the focus is on holding mages back with a bow.
Olga says that’s just being a jack of all trades and master of none, but that skill is unquestionable, and the rapid fire takes down three monsters very quickly.
By the fourth, the orcs are aware of it and taking measures, and the generals move to cover the mages.
But that also serves to draw their attention elsewhere, allowing Hikari and Rurika to come close and attack the archers and mages.
Maybe it would be safer to throw knives here, but I’m not using them this time. There’s the fact that I’d be using materials, and also that I’m confident we can take them down without them.
Throwing knives are still disposable items.
Thirty minutes after the battle has started, the orc side is already in tatters.
They felt so strong before, but they’re no match for us after all we’ve been through.
It ends when Rurika cuts the orc king’s head with her mithril sword.
Then I quickly retrieve the corpses to the Item Box, and a treasure chest appears. There are two return stones inside.
In a way, these are in a way the most valuable magic items we could have, because the dungeon gets wider from this point forward.
Hearing about how people can warp out of the dungeon after each floor in Prekes makes me a little jealous. But then again, each floor is also bigger, so I guess we’ll only know which one is actually better when we go to Prekes.
“You two ladies are strong. I can tell that Rurika in particular is stronger than I remember.”
Rurika looks a little embarrassed about Siphon and Geitz complimenting her so directly.
“If you’re using a shield, something like a spear might be better suited for you than a sword, Sora… Well, but that makes it different from Geitz, and it’s easy to use. And I guess it’s better to use the weapon you’re used to.”
That gets me thinking. Siphon is saying that because I’m good with a sword, but if I learned a spear skill, I could use it too.
Of course, just learning a skill doesn’t mean I can handle a weapon perfectly. A skill is just the entrance, and I still need to train to use it well.
I should look into what kind of weapons shield users normally use, but I haven’t seen a lot of adventurers like that to begin with.
The impression that I get is that most knights who use shields also use spears. That might be because they’re geared towards fighting on horseback, but most knights I’ve seen in dungeons used swords.
I might be able to see a chivalric order train if I ask Will the feudal lord through Leila, but if I was going to do that, I think I’d rather watch Guardian Sword.
“What’s wrong, Sora?”
“I was just thinking about what weapons go well with a shield.”
I say to Mia.
“I feel like a lot of knights in the Holy Kingdom used swords. But they were there to hunt monsters when I was with them, and their shields were small and made with mobility in mind.”
She says that happened in forests.
I look at the shield I’m using. It’s a broad shield, and its weight also means it’s not suited for nimble movement. But that also means that it probably wouldn’t budge against an attack by an ogre.
I don’t feel its weight now, but it does make it harder to move. Maybe that will change as the skill levels up.
“Maybe I should change shields when fighting different monsters?”
Maybe I’ll visit a shop that sells armor and look for different shields.

an orc king or an orclord -> an orc king or an orc lord
Thanks.
Thanks for the post
Kind of sighing that he took the shield skill vs getting the Otherworlder Paladin we read about earlier.
