Walking in another world – Chapter 466 – Majolica’s dungeon – 35F – Part one

We’re back on the thirty-fifth floor. It’s still shrouded in a mist that makes it hard to see.

“Let’s just advance carefully for now.”

It’s not just the mist, it’s also that there’s not a lot of space between trees.

Normally we’d be advancing in a cross formation with the three magic users in the middle, but we can’t maintain that here.

“It looks like we’ll have trouble swinging swords too.”

Siphon in particular doesn’t look happy about this, because he uses a great sword.

Then there’s Rurika, who dual wields swords… And I guess Sera might just chop the trees down with her axes.

“Even I can’t do that, Sora.”

Sera tries to chop one down, but the trees are harder than we thought, and all that happens is it’s damaged on the surface.

I also try a swing of my magic energy infused mithril sword, but it stops halfway into a tree. And I have trouble pulling it out.

“Hey hey, what are you doing?”

Asks Siphon with an exasperated expression.

I thought it might work if I infused the sword with magic energy.

“Let’s leave the silent killer bees to Orga and Hikari, and strengthen our defense when we fight treants.”

Treants are tree monsters that attack mostly from a distance by stretching their branches. And they also use ultrasonic waves.

There are three ways to beat them. One is by destroying the magic stone, but that renders the wood materials worthless. I don’t know why, but if a treant’s magic stone is destroyed, its body turns into regular wood.

The second way is the same as golems, to make them exhaust their magic energy. This is done by attacking and damaging their trunks and branches. That makes them have to spend magic energy healing and regenerating, but it turns it into a long battle.

And since they’re trees, the most obvious method of attack is fire. Fire magic attacks are effective, but also destroy the materials because of their power.

When I first learned that, I wondered if I could attack with just enough power to beat them but not damage the materials.

And lastly, we can cut them off the ground.

This is said to work because they get magic energy from the ground, but it’s not known for sure. And cutting them is supposed to be pretty hard.

Also, treants can actually move while buried by sliding in the ground. You might think they won’t go in a direction where there are trees, but they actually dodge them.

It’s said that you can hear the sound of the leaves rubbing against each other when they pass by trees, so it’s possible to tell when they’re approaching. But wouldn’t the wind blowing make that noise too?

“Oh, Rurika, take this.”

Siphon says as he takes out a kind of magic sword.

“Hum… What is this?”

“Ah, it’s something I ordered because I figured we might need it here. I think you and Jin are going to have to put in work here.”

I look at Jin, and see him holding the same magic sword. Casting Appraisal on it tells me it’s a fire sword.

And Siphon is holding a shield.

“I’m going on defense this time. I’m not as good as Geitz, but I’m not too bad either. I have a good teacher here after all.”

I look at Geitz, and he silently nods.

I’ve never seen Siphon use a shield, but if Geitz isn’t saying anything, it’s probably fine. In fact, if Geitz approves, that means he must be pretty good.

“It’s just that he prefers to use a sword. But we can count on him.”

Says Jin, more to reassure Mia and Chris.

“Are you ready to keep going?”

Asks Siphon, and I take the lead with Hikari.

I’m using Map with Presence Detection and Magic Energy Detection, but its range is small here. And I don’t see any reactions on it.

“Can you feel any monster reactions, Hikari?”

“…No. No reactions, but…”

“But?”

“It’s like the range is shorter than usual.”

Hikari feels the same way as me. And I remember Orga saying something similar last time.

I’d like to cast a shield on everyone, but that would be tough on my MP. Space-Time Magic and Transfer are my trump cards, but both use a good deal of MP. And on top of that, the items I use for Transfer cut into my maximum MP. That kind of hurts.

I have MP Conversion, so I can technically use more MP than my maximum, but managing my SP would be difficult.

“Let’s just go. Everyone should watch out for sounds, but don’t just focus on that, because there are silent killer bees.”

“Yes. But silent killer bees have honey stored in their bodies, so I want to hunt them.”

Yes, I read about that. Of course she remembers something related to food.

“Then we’ll hunt them if possible.”

“Yes. I want to hunt them.”

Hikari nods strongly to me.
