The monsters here are gigantes, trolls, and cyclops. And they all cooperate to attack us.
This is a hastily put together party, but we can coordinate our attacks to some degree. And since Guardian Sword fights their way and we fight our way, there’s no confusion.
Mixing members didn’t go well when we tested it on the forty-eighth floor, but we still practiced coordinating a bit just in case.
Especially since there’s a boss room next.
“These monsters put a lot of pressure. It would be more reliable to fight defensively and pick a few people with high firepower, right?”
“That’d be tricky. In the end, we need to take monsters down and lower their numbers. It might be best to actually have more people on the offense.”
“That would work on a regular floor, but the number of people that can go into a boss room is limited, so we probably need to set our eyes on a long fight.”
Say Ash, Siphon, and Jake.
This is probably all to help decide who goes into the boss room.
All members of our party will be included, but others want the glory that comes with being the first ones to get through a boss room. Not just as clan members but as individuals too.
Also, this being the fiftieth floor means the ending must be close, which puts even more value on it for dungeon explorers.
That’s why Jake and Ash need to decide who they’re bringing along.
We don’t know what the boss even is, so we need a good balanced party. But Siphon says that our parties are so well balanced, that it should be fine even if Guardian Sword’s isn’t.
“How about we keep moving?”
Says Jake, and the adventurers resting all get up.
We’re taking point this time. At first we took turns with Guardian Sword, but it’s mostly us now.
This is because Siphon knows I’m using Map, so he’s been coming up with excuses.
“I want to get some experience fighting these monsters, but avoid fights as much as possible too.”
Says Siphon, making it hard to pick a route.
It would be suspicious if we didn’t come across any monsters, and it’s in an adventurer’s nature to want at least some monster materials. Especially since cyclops are making a debut on this floor, and their materials are valuable.
They’re going to plummet when they realize these materials can’t be used for anything, but as long as they’re new, there’s going to be people who want to buy them.
The alchemist guild in particular is always happy to experiment, and some countries even do independent research.
But the one who was particularly focused on it, the Borsheil Empire, can’t afford to focus on it too much right now, as the country is collapsing in a very real way, so it’s mostly just the alchemist guild and the Magic State.
“I want to see those Guardian Sword guys fight too. Jake actually asked me to check who would be good, and Jake and Ash said that if we don’t think they’re good for it, to tell them, and they’ll leave the boss fight to the others.”
I don’t think the leader can step back like that. Would the other clan members accept it?
I don’t know what the policy of this clan is like, but I’ve heard that they get a lot of office work pushed on them, and the commander and vice-commander tend to be absent because of it.
But Siphon says that after watching them fight, we need them.
We keep testing different things as we keep moving, but we reach the staircase faster than on the previous floor.
The biggest reason is the position of the staircase itself.
Then we check the boss room, but unlike all the other doors, this one has elaborate ornaments.
“Could this be…”
Says Jake, and everyone gulps.
“Let’s report this to the guild. We need to decide who’s going in too. Sora and Siphon, sorry, but can you come visit us later?”
We have no reason to say no, so after resting for a day, we go see Guardian Sword.
We’re just going to talk, so it’s just going to be me and Siphon… And Hikari and Jin, who follow us anyway.
I get that Jin wants to be there to support Siphon with this and that, but it surprises me that Hikari wants to go.
“It might be boring, you know?”
“It’s fine.”
I don’t know if it is, but Jake doesn’t mind anyway.
Then we go to the adventurer guild, and tell them this could be the final floor. This isn’t the first time someone has seen a door like that in a dungeon.
