The next match is between beast people. One is holding a sword, and the other a spear.
The spear user wins, and I think the difference in the ranges of the weapons helped.
“I’d like to try using a long weapon like that.”
“Yes, it’s great. He toyed with him even after he got close.”
The sword user got close numerous times, but the spear user also dealt with it calmly.
And in the end, he used that lure to him in and counter.
Elsa, Miharu, and Kotori scream when the spear pierces the other fighter, but he quickly disappears.
Is that the effect of the item in the arena?
“Next, it’s Argo and Siphon.”
It’s the third match. They’ve had mock battles since they arrived in the Beast Kingdom, but they never went at it seriously because they knew they might face each other in the tournament.
I’m wondering how the spectators will react to a match between humans, but they sound exactly the same.
They get even more excited when Argo is introduced as an A rank adventurer, but Siphon gets a similar reaction. It’s probably because they saw how his fellow party member Geitz did.
“Argo has the advantage.”
“Yes, the match has started already.”
Rurika and Hikari think Argo is already ahead.
“Siphon’s taken damage from the name of his party.”
“He could just change it.”
“We could, but it’s not going away so easily.”
Says Jin with an awkward smile.
“And I’m fine with it. Adventurers get quests more easily if their name is known.”
I get that, but a name is important. But yes, it’s more recognizable.
“Ready Siphon? I’m not going easy on you.”
“Yes, I’m surpassing you today!”
Siphon moves as soon as the match starts, swinging his great sword at Argo like it’s light.
Argo changes his trajectory along with the swings, jumping left and right to dodge.
“Not bad!”
“Same to you. I’ve never gotten this serious!”
Argo dodges an overhead slash, and quickly closes the distance.
Siphon pulls back his great sword, but Argo delays him by stepping on it.
Argo swings his sword at the stationary Siphon, and Siphon jumps back after letting go of the great sword.
The audience cheers at this back and forth, but Siphon is unarmed now.
“This is a good time to give up.”
“…Hmph, scared?”
Siphon provokes Argo, despite Argo’s sword being pointed at him.
Argo slowly closes the distance, and just as he’s getting close, both men step in at the same time.
This surprises Argo, and he’s left without space to swing his sword. Siphon then grabs his arm and holds it tightly.
The unexpected pain makes Argo drop his sword too, but Siphon keeps holding him, picks him up, and smacks him to the ground.
No, he can’t quite get it.
Argo twists his body as he’s hitting the ground, bringing Siphon down with him, and holding him in an armlock.
That finishes it.
The audience is taken aback by the finish, but this is the beast king’s yard. A tournament where anything goes.
One person claps and yells, and it prompts the whole venue to do the same.
“Tch. I didn’t think it’d end like this.”
“What are you talking about you muscle-brain? You almost lost use of your arm.”
“I could’ve just had it healed.”
Argo is the winner of the third match.
“…That’s all they said.”
Hikari casually reads their lips and voices over what they’re saying.
“Hikari is amazing.”
Elsa claps, and Alto nods.
It actually is, but Hikari’s plain emotionless voice really takes away the feeling of tension.
But it really was an intense back and forth. And no one here can tell if Hikari is actually correct, she’s just so confident that it makes us not doubt her.
“But Siphon was just as fast as Argo with that great sword.”
“That’s Siphon’s strong point. But for me, it’s how Argo managed to block those heavy strikes that’s impressive.”
“If he was always like that, we wouldn’t have trouble.”
Guilford and Jin exchange compliments, but that’s how it ends.
Even if he was looking for Morrigan after falling for her at first sight, he did lead a lot of lazy days.
I’ve been told he was acting that way on purpose to look for her in secret, but that image of him as the guy that loves to hit on girls is still left in my mind.
But I really wasn’t expecting him to finish the match like that.
