After the fourth and fifth matches, I see Shun.
“How much did Shun fight?”
He’s the one I’ve interacted with the least out of all the people from my world. I feel like we’re pretty distant.
He has a serious personality, and I think he felt responsible when we were summoned and I was thrown out of the castle.
But when I tell that to Naoto, he laughs and says it’s not the case.
“He’s way stronger than me with a sword. He’s a specialist. And he’s been learning a lot with Argo and the others ever since we came back from the demon king’s castle.”
Yes, he’s the Sword King.
He has the Sword Master skill, and support skills that help him specialize in fighting up close. I don’t know the specifics though.
His only regret is that he can’t use magic. This is a fantasy world after all… It makes sense for people to want to use magic in a world where magic exists.
It’s flat out useful too. In this world, I think daily life magic is more important than offensive magic.
I heard from Kotori that he’s been studying it too, hoping that he’ll be able to use it one day.
“Shun is fighting a beast person… Is that a sorcerer?”
It looks like he’s holding a pole with a jewel in its tip. And I do feel magic energy there when I use Magic Energy Detection. A lot of it for a beast person.
Both fighters stand in front of each other, and the venue goes silent.
But the silence is immediately broken when the match starts, and Shun charges forward.
He’s decided that his opponent will use magic, and that it would be dangerous to be far away.
But the beast person… Ryce, also advances.
This catches Shun off guard, and he’s blown back by an attack from Ryce.
He manages to block with his sword the moment Ryce swings his pole, but despite suffering no damage, he did open some distance.
It’s the perfect distance for a sorcerer. He uses Fireball, a beginner level fire spell just like Fire Arrow, but it’s the chant that changes it.
Also, it’s not as strong as Fire Arrow, but while that spell only hits a certain point, Fireball covers an area.
It’s no wonder he’s surprised about seeing five being fired at once.
The sorcerer probably had this whole thing figured out from that first counterattack, or he wouldn’t be able to attack with magic so quickly.
Also, he might have a skill that lets him fire multiple spells in a row like that.
Actually, there’s another possibility. In this tournament, there’s another thing that creates a gap between participants, equipment.
Some say it’s not fair, but this country sees that as a sort of strength too.
The audience cheers at the speed of the attacks closing in on Shun, and Miharu and Kotori react the opposite way.
Many expect the magic to connect, but they’re proven wrong when Shun swings his sword five times and cuts down all the Fireballs. People are surprised at first, but then erupt into the biggest cheer of the day.
He then steps forward, and swings his sword again despite the distance.
Ryce immediately chants a spell, and a wall appears on the ring. It’s Earth Wall.
But right after that, vertical lines enter the wall and split it in two. Ryce must have seen that coming, because he’s already gone from behind the wall.
He runs to the right, and fires more magic to stay on the offensive.
It’s Tornado. It goes towards Shun, and spreads so he has nowhere to run.
The audience is silent again, as they see Shun’s sword clash with the tornado. This pushes him back, but also succeeds in changing the tornado’s direction towards Ryce.
He quickly puts up another Earth Wall, and what looks like a magic energy shield around him, but the tornado swallows everything, and Ryce yells.
The moment the tornado reaches him, Ryce opens his eyes wide, and by the time the tornado goes away, he’s nowhere to be seen.
“Cutting down magic is crazy, but repelling it like that even more so.”
But that attack that repelled the tornado also had power behind it. It’s why it broke through Ryce’s defense, and he looked so surprised in the end.
“Was that Shun’s skill too? I couldn’t do that.”
“I could block with a shield, but not cut down magic like that.”
Naoto responds to me.
The beast king can punch it, but that’s a different story.
Well, maybe there are others who can do it, and we just don’t know. I feel like the demons could.
“That ends today’s matches. We hope to see you again tomorrow!”
Shun is announced the winner, and the host’s voice echoes as the curtain closes on the first day.
