Walking in another world – Chapter 548 – Idea to strengthen equipment?

We’ve gotten a few ideas after the discussion.

One of them was to raise levels and proficiency in combat, but that takes time.

Someone also proposed we upgrade our equipment, like getting magic equipment that boosts power or agility, or using different weapons to up our offensive power.

But it’s actually pretty tricky to get magic equipment. A lot of it comes from dungeons, although some are man-made. The problem is that the latter tends to be highly sought after, and usually made on order.

Sometimes they end up in stores, but they are sold quickly.

I have the Alchemy and Creation skills, so should I try to make it first? I have the materials to make some things, although it’d be tough to make enough for everyone.

As far as weapons go, it’s tough to beat mithril. It would have to be either magic swords found in dungeons or something made of even rarer ore.

But then one thing comes to my mind about the mithril weapon I have, most likely because of the new Analysis skill I learned.

Something new appears when I cast Appraisal. It used to show the name of the weapon, its effects, and quality, but now it shows its attack power and durability.

If I take this at face value, it means the higher the attack value shown here, the stronger it is. Should I use Alchemy like when I do maintenance on it?

I try it right away, but the attack value stays the same. Instead, the durability goes up.

Then I use Alchemy while infusing it with magic energy… And the attack value goes up a little. Actually, I don’t think it’s quite enough to call it a little.

But it feels like it will go up the more magic energy I infuse. Then I try using Alchemy without infusing it with magic energy, and the attack power goes down, and the durability stays the same.

Then I keep infusing magic energy and use Alchemy again and again to see if it will stack, but it doesn’t.

Maybe there’s a cap.

“Sora… What are you doing?”

Mia has a puzzled expression, as she sees me staring at the mithril sword.

“Ah, I was just trying some things with my skill. What about you, Mia?”

I want to check my skills, and that’s part of the reason why we’re not going to the dungeon today. Everyone else in my party is doing their own thing too.

“I came here to call you because it’s time for lunch.”

It’s that late already?

“I know you tend to get engrossed in these things, but don’t overdo it.”

Mia is exasperated, and we go to the dining hall together.

It’s crowded here, and I see a lot of people who work in the castle. We all sit at a table in a corner, and after we’re done eating, I say I’m going to the city in the afternoon.

“Where?”

“I want to check out places that sell equipment.”

I want to see the differences in weapons with Analysis, and go to the adventurer guild and merchant guild to see if I can buy magic stones and materials.

Mia, Chris, Elsa, and Alto say they want to tag along, but Hikari and the others want to practice with their skills and do mock battles with the knights.

◇ ◇ ◇

We say goodbye to the others, and head to a weapons shop first.

It’s very clear that there are fewer people around the city, but it’s still active.

We go to a place we visited before, and start looking around. By casting Appraisal now, I can see that even if weapons have the same quality, their attack power varies slightly.

They can be different even if they’re made with the same ore, and the owner says that difference comes from their makers.

“Hou, you have a good eye. An old dwarf made that. It’s a bit more expensive than the rest, but if you can afford it, it’s a good buy.”

The owner says, because I was holding it and looking at it intently.

Our weapons were made through Alchemy, but would they change if they were reforged by a blacksmith? Or should I get a smithing skill?

“Is it possible to put out a request to a blacksmith? And look around a workshop?”

“It’d be tough with this dwarf, he’s a moody guy that doesn’t accept everyone. He sells wholesale to this shop because we have a bit of a connection, but he gets a lot of requests in this kingdom.”

Kingdom… If I ask the beast king to help, he’ll want something in return again… But it’s to help conquer dungeons…

“Sora, don’t think on your own. Let’s talk about it with Ryuryu for now.”

Says Mia plainly. Yes, there’s no point in racking my brain about it.

I thank the owner and we leave, and beast people adventurers come in.

They look and feel pretty strong… And then one of them talks to me.
