Walking in another world – Chapter 551 – Siffert

It takes us a week to get to Siffert from Fors. It would’ve taken two if we used magic beast wagons, but that’s if they were only carrying people.

Ryuryu tells us that they don’t typically use them to transport goods, unless they’re in a hurry.

The road to Siffert is peaceful, so we don’t encounter any monsters or bandits. And since we have nothing to do in the wagons, we pass the time by chatting.

We divided the passengers between the wagons by gender, so I mostly hear about the dungeon in Prekes from people like Naoto and Shun, and about the Dungeon in the Borsheil Empire from Argo’s party.

They’re from the empire, so that was the first dungeon they challenged.

“Where are you going after you beat that dungeon, Sora?”

We’re still halfway there, so I think it’s too early to think about it, but…

“Probably Prekes.”

I say, because there’s all sorts of complications with the empire, so I want to stay away.

“Prekes? We could go there again.”

Says Naoto. I think we could discuss that after beating Fors’.

But the best part of traveling by wagon is of course, the food.

It’s typically the girls who cook, while the guys keep watch and set up camp for the night.

While we eat, the girls ask me what we were talking about in my wagon, and when I say it was mostly about dungeons, they look interested.

And I return the question, they say it’s a secret. I don’t feel like I should press further, so I drop it.

Once we get to Siffert, we see the tournament is the main topic of discussion around here,

“Apparently this is a normal sight ’round here. There’s troubadours singing about the fights in bars and stuff at night.”

She says, because she heard about that before.

The tournament is the biggest event for the people of Lath, but not everyone can go and watch, so once it’s over, troubadours and people who actually took part make the rounds telling tales of the fierce fights.

I think that’s why people who know Shun and the others took part make a big fuss when they see them, and people crowd around Shun because they’ve heard of his heated battle with the beast king.

But that also leads us to find an inn pretty easily.

Also, the names of the people who reached the main competition, Geitz, Argo, and Siphon are known too, so when we check out the dining hall, a lot of people crowd around them too.

Siphon in particular is happy to drink what people offer, but when I fearfully look at Yuno, I see she’s letting this one slide.

And the next day, since the ones who drank are too hungover to move, we leave them in the inn and go out sightseeing.

We are going to be walking to Ryuryu’s village, so I was going to stock up for that, but we actually already have everything we need, so we around go the stalls instead.

Hikari takes the lead while holding Elsa and Argo’s hands, with Shizune close behind them.

Also, Shun, Jin, and I are the only guys here. Shun and I can drink alcohol in this world, but it still feels wrong because we’re used to the laws of our world. And Jin is just good at controlling himself without going too crazy.

Geitz is typically like Jin in that regard, but not this time. He drank slowly, but poured another pitcher right after finishing the last one. And since he always emptied it, he ended up drinking a lot.

The fact that he typically doesn’t drink a lot probably has a lot to do with him not being too strong with alcohol too. He drank less than Siphon or Argo, but took more damage.

I’m pretty sure they would’ve continued until morning if the owner lady didn’t throw everyone out.

“How long do you think it will take for them to recover, Jin?”

“Siphon will be fine tomorrow, but Geitz… I think he’s going to need three days.”

Especially since we’ll be walking from now on.

“Ryuryu, we bought everything we need in Fors, but isn’t there anything else we should buy?”

“…Hm, booze? Gramps drinks a lot, so it wouldn’t hurt to have it.”

Do all dwarves like alcohol?

In any case, we go around Siffert while we wait for Geitz to recover, but since people know who Shun and the others are, they stay in the inn from the second day forward.

A lot of people push their way inside when it’s time to eat, but the owner forbids alcohol. Some customers voice their complaints, but eat quietly when she glares them down.

Maybe it’s because she knows we’ll be leaving soon, but in any case, I’m grateful.
