Walking in another world – Chapter 586 – Preparation – Part two

As we conquer the upper floors of the Fors dungeon, we learn that monsters can use their magic energy to strengthen themselves too. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a dungeon or if wild monsters can do it too, but we’ll have to deal with it.

Chris’ wind magic is good at keeping monsters in place, but it’s not a simple technique, and it might not work on every monster.

And so, I create an experimental weapon that has the Absorption skill. Will it steal monsters’ magic energy when it hits them?

After trying it with Hikari’s help, it does feel like it takes away MP the moment it cut me, even if not a lot.

Also, Mia shows up while we’re testing and gets mad, saying it’s dangerous.

Then the others show up, and when Mia explains what we’re doing, Chris gets mad too, and Rurika and Sera are exasperated.

But what choice do we have? I can’t test something like this when it’s time to actually face monsters.

Also, I have Pain Reduction, but I still don’t like being cut, so I’m careful about that.

Now, because my process was interrupted, I can’t really complete it, even though I tested it. For example, how is the amount it absorbs decided? Is it a fixed amount, is it depending on damage? The strength of the impact itself? Something else?

I have no choice but to stop testing direct attacks, and instead see how it does when I infuse the shield with magic energy.

…Yes, the magic energy in the shield goes down, but is that because of Absorption, or just because it blocked an attack?

Oh well. Mia got mad because she cares about me, and I would’ve done the same if the roles were reversed.

The only reason why I even tried to do things that way is because I can see exactly how MP goes down by checking my stats.

“Can you attach that effect to our weapons too?”

“This looks like it’s kind of hard to handle.”

I explain to Rurika that when I use a weapon with Absorption, it also affects the magic energy that I infuse. That means they wouldn’t be able to attack with magic energy anymore. Or rather, it would take a lot of magic energy, I guess.

“Then it’s better to use it on a spare weapon, right?”

Asks Rurika.

Yes, that’s possible, but what if she had to switch weapons in the middle of combat? I feel like it could be dangerous.

“An item pouch can fix that problem. Ah, but wouldn’t my attack power go down because I wouldn’t be using a mithril sword?”

I have mithril in the item box, but not enough to make weapons for everyone. Mithril is precious too, so getting more isn’t easy.

It’s expensive, and people love weapons made out of it, so when it reaches the market, people fight over it.

“…Anyway, taking compatibility into account too, I think it’s best if I only make them for Rurika and Hikari.”

It feels like it would match well with Rurika’s Gale. And since Hikari uses a dagger, her weapon doesn’t use as much mithril.

Conversely, I’m excluding Sera because she doesn’t have a lot of magic energy to begin with, and Kaina because she has a golem body, and it can’t be maintained if its magic energy is sapped.

“Wouldn’t this be effective on throwing weapons too?”

“We won’t know until we try.”

I can set it so the Absorption effect activates on impact, but thrown weapons tend to be dodged.

That’s why it’s more effective to have something like an explosive effect, that works even if the enemy is only near the weapon.

“If it’s not a lot of trouble, you should do it. It doesn’t hurt to have more options.”

Rurika is right. It really doesn’t take that much effort, as long as I have the materials.

“Then I think we should go shopping. The dinner party with Miss Eliana cost a lot of ingredients as well.”

…Chris is right. We really did use a lot.

There’s still enough in the Item Box that we won’t have trouble, but still, I’ll feel better that way.

And it’s not bad to take a walk around town either. Elsa and Alto are also free, so it’s a good time to ask them and Shizune to go out shopping.

We leave, and Shun and Naoto stay behind.

It’s been a while since the tournament, but people still approach them pretty frequently when they’re out, and we have to deal with that when we’re with them.

We end up staying out until just before the sun sets, and when we return, I start working on throwing knives right away.

We used a lot of the others too, so I make more.

“These ones have fire, these have wind, these Absorption…”

I make sure to separate them by color so there’s no confusion, and tell everyone what the colors mean when I give them the knives.

“Thanks. Let’s go to sleep early, so we’re ready tomorrow.”

We’re going to the seventy-third floor tomorrow, but I wonder what level of hellhound we’ll find…

In any case, we have a few tactics in mind that use Chris wind spirit magic, and we go to sleep early like Rurika said.
