“This isn’t a good place for me…”
Says Rurika after we enter the second floor and finish a battle with demons.
Looking back on it, we fought three of them. Individual demons can use different magic, and they attack with different elements.
They’re also good fighters in that they adapt to long and close range when using their magic. This is especially true when they combine elements like fire and wind to fight together with good synergy and increase their power.
Of course, it could just be a coincidence.
In any case, since they filled the passage with magic, and Rurika’s Gale skill doesn’t actually teleport her like Transfer, if she used it, she would be jumping into their magic.
That’s why she says she’s not good with them.
I took the brunt of their attacks with Aura Shield at first, but after a while the demons started to take some distance, so we started moving forward.
Aura shield spends more SP when I enlarge it, but since this is a passage and not an open space, I could maintain it without spending a lot.
So the environment worked to our advantage too.
As for their tendency to run away, the moment the magic stopped, Chris pinpointed their positions and created barriers of wind to the left, right, and back, blocking their escape and slowing them down. Then all we had to do was get close and finish them.
Demons run away after using a lot of magic because, like the monsters on the higher floors of the Fors dungeon, they’re easier to attack once they run out of magic energy.
That’s also why they run away when attacks start connecting.
Conversely, this also means they have the intelligence to make these decisions. It also felt like Provoke didn’t work as well as it usually does.
The quota here is fifty demons, which is less than the previous floor, but they’re harder to hunt.
Also, the boss of the seventh floor is a demon lord. People who hunt here do so for the magic stones and materials, and definitely not to fight the boss multiple times.
And when people hire Jetblack to help them, they send two or three people per boss fight.
Any less, and defeating the demon lord would be difficult, is what Argo and the others say. I think it makes sense, because even with the safety area, there’s a penalty in the form of having to wait to challenge it again if you fail.
We keep hunting to hit our quota, but then we notice something. The different types of demons.
Demons’ elements change according with the magic they use. So demons that use a lot of fire are fire demons, demons that use a lot of water are water demons, and demons that use a lot of darkness are darkness demons.
We notice this because the demons that use darkness magic clearly don’t move as well as the others.
Demons aren’t undead, but they’re close, so Mia is their mortal enemy.
We’re well equipped, so we don’t have much trouble with them anyway, but Mia’s presence might be weakening them.
And so, when we find demons, we don’t have trouble with them. Yes, when we can find them…
That’s the biggest problem right now. I can see them constantly moving on Map, and I know where they are. Normally we would just have to head towards those reactions, but demons won’t make it that easy for us.
“I didn’t know they could also pass through walls when they’re not running away.”
When Chris told me they passed through walls when they ran away, I didn’t think that was something they did whenever.
But of course, it hit me eventually as I watched Map.
“The last eight are far…”
Says Argo with a sigh.
“Should we use the shamal horn?”
We have six more uses.
We want to save them for the last three floors, but we also don’t want to finish the dungeon with uses left.
“…How about we hunt normally for the rest of the day, and use it if we still aren’t done?”
Says Argo after thinking about it.
No one objects, so we keep looking.
We manage to hunt five more, but that’s it.
But we don’t use the shamal horn, because we just happen to come across ones phasing through a wall on our way back.
