“Is there no one around us, Sora?”
“Yes.”
“Can you confirm, Gill?”
“Yes.”
“Then.. Go ahead, Chris.”
Chris nods to Argo, and prepares her magic… And then uses spirit magic.
A fire engulfs the passage as it moves forward, and reactions from monsters in it disappear one after the other.
Chris uses magic again, this time wind spirit magic. The wind intensifies the flames, so they burn hotter.
I’m protecting everyone from the heat with a film of water.
When the flames are finally gone, only three reactions remain.
From the right, there’s an ogre lord, orc lord, and demon lord.
“Let’s do as we planned!”
I nod, run forward, and cast Provoke.
I’m taking on the demon lord with Mia. Argo’s party and Chris are taking on the ogre lord, and Hikari, Rurika, and Sera are handling the orc lord.
Chris is with Argo’s party because she can use magic, but since she just used it more than once, she’s focusing on recovering.
I’m aggroing the demon lord while firing Light Arrows, that are blocked by the demon lord’s barrier.
I think the orc lord survived all that magic because of the protection of the demon lord.
Demons and ogres have high resistance to magic even with barriers, and high durability, but I don’t think an orc lord would’ve handled it on its own.
That doesn’t mean orc lords are weak, Chris’ magic is just that strong.
I think there’s an issue of compatibility too.
As this crosses my mind, the demon lord uses darkness magic, but it doesn’t work on me. I’m protected by light magic and holy magic.
I attack with my light magic infused mithril sword, but it doesn’t do much damage. I guess it does more than other elements would, but its resistance is high.
Then we’ll just keep it busy while we wait for another group to take out a lord.
That’s my idea anyway, but it doesn’t materialize, because Mia thrusts with her spear and easily pierces the demon lord’s barrier.
The spear then stabs the demon lord deep in its side.
It screams and tries to attack her, but Mia lets go of the spear and retreats. I think she can’t pull the spear out because it’s stabbed so deep.
A normal adventurer can’t afford to let go of a weapon that easily, but it doesn’t matter for us. There’s a limit to how much we can do that, but we have enough spares.
Sure enough, Mia grabs another spear from her item pouch and holds it.
The tip shines white, because she’s casting her blessing on it.
And as I look at her more closely, I see ears on her head. She transformed into a beast person.
Before, she said that she couldn’t transform while using holy magic, but she’s been practicing.
That’s how she was able to pierce the barrier and stab the demon lord so deeply, because of the boost to her physical abilities.
This is why we’re both fighting the demon lord.
The fight gets more intense as time passes. The demon lord gets seven spears in its body, and Mia takes out the eighth.
I’m leaving the attacks mostly to her, but also slash when I can, to attract its attention and sap its magic energy.
The demon lord counterattacks, but I block its physical attacks perfectly, and seal its magic.
When the ninth spear is stabbed into it, the demon lord finally goes down.
But Mia is also on one knee, breathing heavily.
“Uu, I’m tired.
I see sweat on her forehead, leaving her hair sticking to it.
I’m also sweating a bit, but not that much. Did she move around that much more? I-it’s not like I was slacking off.
I cast purification magic, and she sighs.
“What about the others?”
“Rurika’s group took down the orc lord and is now fighting with the others.”
“…Since when?”
“A while back, I think?”
I could tell because the monster’s reaction was gone from Presence Detection.
I could check because I have Parallel Thinking, but she couldn’t spare the attention when we were fighting a lord on our own.
“They could’ve come here to help.”
“I don’t think that would’ve been easy. Mia, you didn’t really look around you, did you?”
“…I was focused on the demon lord.”
Rurika and the others saw Mia, and probably assumed they would get hit if they got close.
At that speed, if Rurika used Gale, they might collide.
“I see. I guess I didn’t have the time to look around.”
Especially this time, since she was both transformed and using holy magic.
In fact, I think it’s incredible that she can do both. She couldn’t until now.
“Let’s go to where they are. Can you walk?”
There’s a higher than zero chance other monsters could spawn.
Mia nods, and we walk slowly towards the others.
