Suddenly, I remember seeing my friends collapse for a moment.
I’m pretty sure that was an effect from a magic eye, but what kind of effect?
Rurika and Sera’s movements are clearly different, and they look confused.
I get a bad feeling, and cast Appraisal on them.
【Status: Perception Obstruction】
Both have that status condition.
“Mia, take care of Rurika and Sera!”
I yell when I see that, and Mia casts Recovery, removing the status effect.
I didn’t do it myself because I’m too far away.
It might’ve been faster to cast Transfer and then Recovery, but I don’t want the kijin to see that trump card.
Rurika and Sera look surprised for a moment, but quickly hold up their weapons again and move out.
Rurika attacks first, turning into wind by using Gale. She leaves an afterimage and disappears.
At the same time, I hear a metallic sound, and the kijin’s body appears again.
It looks like it managed to block her attack with its axe. How good are its reflexes? Maybe it was a coincidence?
Her attack doesn’t deal damage, but the impact makes the kijin wholly visible again.
Then Sera attacks. She swings her two axes again and again, which the kijin blocks with his before dodging and taking some distance.
But Argo and the others are waiting for it where it lands, so it doesn’t get to take a break.
The kijin uses its excellent physical abilities to dodge, but it’s slowly becoming more wounded.
We can’t deal a fatal blow because we’re all wary of its magic eyes.
We can’t seem to take that final step.
It uses that water wall one time to defend itself, but doesn’t use its magic eyes again, so we go full throttle on offense.
I say all that, but only a few of us can attack, so me, Argo, and Sera step forward with concentrated attacks.
As a result, the kijin keeps getting pushed back, and I see signs that it will use a magic eye one last time, but Argo pierces its body before it can, and it slowly turns into particles of light.
After it disappears, it leaves two eyes, but no one picks them up.
I guess they’re thinking I should do it so I can put them in the Item Box, but it’s mostly because they’re tired.
Chris and I are the only ones that look okay, but it’s less because everyone’s physically tired and more because being worried about the magic eyes exhausted them mentally.
I was pretty nervous too, and cast Appraisal several times just to check.
“Sora, are there any enemies nearby?”
“…At the very least, Map doesn’t show me any.”
“…I see…”
Argo takes a deep breath and gets up.
Yes, Map doesn’t show me any, but that doesn’t guarantee there aren’t any enemies lurking about.
This three-eyed kijin didn’t show up on Map.
“Did you notice it approaching?”
“Not at all. I only sensed it when it was in front of us.”
“Me too.”
Guilford and Rurika say to me, and Hikari nods.
That means we can’t just relax and take a break.
It wouldn’t be reasonable to camp here, but we can’t keep making day trips here if we’re going to take out the kijins that do show reactions.
“…I guess we have to use magic to create walls if we’re going to rest.”
“Can you maintain them for a long time?”
“I think it will be fine if we infuse them with magic energy.”
Chris says to Argo.
Earth Wall is one thing, but I think it will be hard to relax surrounded by Fire Wall, Ice Wall, and Wind Wall.
Not that we can complain, when our lives are at risk.
“Hn? What is it, Hikari?”
As we talk, I see Hikari with her arms folded and a serious expression on her face.
“We could set up traps, but there’s nothing to use.”
Hikari is talking about traps that would alert us that enemies are approaching, not ones that would stop them.
“Traps…”
There’s a Trap skill. Will it let me make them and set them…
Should I give this one a shot?
NEW
Trap Lv1
I see. Now I get that Alchemy also has items that can be used as traps.
Does that mean learning this skill gave me knowledge on traps?
“Chris, can you use magic to secure our surroundings just in case?”
“What are you going to do?”
“Hikari proposed that we set up traps, so I’m going to make some with Alchemy. But I don’t know how effective they’ll be, so they might end up being only for peace of mind.”
It’s dangerous to rely on a freshly learned skill, because its level is low. Not that anyone here would let their guard down because they feel safe.
While everyone rests, I start making traps.
It’s only after I make and set them that I realize we could have left the dungeon just this once to prepare…
