Walking in another world – Chapter 672 – Making traps

When I picture a trap, it’s something that makes noise to warn of suspicious people approaching, or things hunters use to trap beasts.

There are those traps found in labyrinth style dungeons, but those probably wouldn’t do much because they’re too conspicuous. Maybe I could hide them a bit with the Concealment skill.

I could also combine traps with magic skills, so magic activates when they are touched.

“I’ll make something like noise traps that warn us when something’s near… What do you think of traps that will get in their way?”

“If they can stop them or just disturb them, I think that’s good.”

If we’re sleeping, that could buy us time to get up and get ready.

“A trap won’t take down something as powerful as a kijin, right? Then Chris is right, and the best traps would be ones that buy time.”

I agree with Guilford, it would be hard to make something that takes them down or even hurts them.

There’s also the fact that my skill level is low, but if they can’t take Chris’ spirit magic head on and come out mostly unharmed, my magic won’t do much.

But what about setting traps with Time-Space Magic or Gravity Magic infused?

I don’t have materials for binding magic. I have wood, but not stuff like vines.

Well, let’s just go with noise traps and magic this time. I think the noise traps will do most of the work, but I don’t think having more traps will be an issue.

What if there’s a kijin that can disappear like the one we just fought, or one that can attack from a distance with something like a bow? I can’t make something that reacts to an arrow and blocks it.

It really is best to set traps and walls, I think.

The ground here is dirt, so I can use it for walls… No, what about using wood to make something like planks and reinforcing it with magic energy?

I keep thinking about these things as I make traps.

I melt thin wood into magic stones, and then infuse magic energy. I’ll make a few of these, and then lay planks before we go to sleep.

I have two kinds of noise traps, one that stands out, and one with the Concealment skill infused.

Once I’m done with these, I start making the wooden planks. I’m making them thick, but also making a lot knowing they’ll break. They’re infused with magic energy, but they’re still just wood.

Also, covering the walls with them will hinder our vision, but I’m prioritizing defense against sneak attacks because that’s what I’m most afraid of.

“I guess this is it.”

“No, it’s more than enough. How are things around us?”

“There was a reaction that got closer during that last fight, but it’s pulling back. There are no kijin around. Not ones that I can detect, anyway.”

I say, because I can’t get that sneak attack out of my mind. No wonder not many people hunt here.

The issue is how common those eyes that hide their bodies and presence really are.

“…Then how about we rest here for today? We didn’t fight much, but we’re mentally drained. And you made all this stuff too… Ah, and I have something I want to talk about too.”

Argo is probably saying that just so I can rest.

I agree, set the traps, and put up walls to block the passage.

Anyone who doesn’t know would just think it’s a dead end. I made sure the walls match the rest of the dungeon.

◇ ◇ ◇

We manage to get through the night without any incidents.

How do I know the time in a dungeon? Because we have someone here who is excellent at keeping the time.

We have breakfast, and then I collect the walls and traps. And of course, I’m careful while I do it.

“There’s no one around, so maybe you can blast magic as we go.”

Says Argo as I collect traps.

I thought about that, but decided not to. If I blast magic every time we turn a corner, I’ll run out. And we might get complacent if I start doing that.

“Let’s think about how to deal with this floor as we go.”

Says Guilford with a sigh. I hope we can figure it out, but unfortunately, I don’t have any ideas.

I guess all I can do is make sure the shields stay active. That’s what I can do anyway, but Mia can cast buffs too.
