The next one we fight is a one eye, and this one doesn’t use magic eye abilities.
But it’s holding a spear in one hand and a shield in the other, and it’s adept at defending, so it takes a while to take it down. And because of that, it gets reinforcements.
It’s our wariness of magic eyes that drags on fights.
The other kijin that appears has two eyes, and it’s carrying a bow. It uses its magic eye to create flames, leading to a tough fight where we dodge arrows only for flames to appear where we land.
We can dodge the flames because it can’t use that ability in succession, and there’s a magic energy reaction where the flames will appear.
Of course, there isn’t much time between the magic energy reaction and the flames appearing, but everyone in my party has the physical abilities to dodge in time.
Whenever I feel flames will appear near someone, I call out their name, and they move away.
I can only say I’m impressed by their reflexes.
“It would be trouble even without the magic eye. We’re always watching out for it, and there are a lot of times when we don’t step in because we’re cautious.”
“Yes. But knowing when they’ll use it means we just have to watch out for that, and it makes it easier to fight. Well, we only know because of Sora, but…”
Say Argo and Guilford, and the others nod.
The other eye uses status conditions, so I can check that with Appraisal. That would be dangerous under normal conditions, but we have Mia to lift them.
“…? What’s wrong, Hikari?”
As I think that, I see Hikari’s eyes relaxing.
“Hn, my eyes are tired because I’m focusing on its eye to see when it trembles.”
“Are you that focused? If you focus on it too much, it becomes dangerous for you.”
Focusing on that too much leaves her open for everything else.
I stopped paying attention to that when we started fighting two of them. I can’t spare the attention.
“It’s okay, I can look at its whole body and see how it moves while keeping its eyes in the center!”
Isn’t that amazing?
When I say that, she casually says it’s because of her training.
By training, she means when she was young in Elesya. Maybe it’s just ingrained in her.
If I could do the same, I could probably position myself in a better way to deal with the magic eyes, but it’s not something I’m going to learn quickly. Even if there’s a skill.
Even Appraisal and Analysis won’t tell me the effects of the magic eyes, but it is possible to see what skills someone or something has.
Reese, the guildmaster of Majolica, and Ignis can tell.
Maybe I should’ve asked what skill they use to make that happen… Wait, didn’t this thought cross my mind before?
Focus on the eyes… What if I focused on an eye while casting analysis? Sometimes I use Analysis after Appraisal, but a lot of times it’s to look into something I couldn’t see with Appraisal.
But now, talking to Hikari is making me wonder if I can learn what magic eyes can do by focusing on them while casting Analysis.
“Did you figure something out, master?”
“I don’t know. But I guess I thought of something I want to try.”
I don’t want to raise her expectations. I think she understands that too, because she doesn’t ask any more.
But I give her a warm towel to put on her eyes. She takes a deep breath, and I can see her relaxing.

In the end, Analysis does tell them their effects. The problem is that I have to get close.
Appraisal doesn’t work from far away either, but Analysis requires me to be even close. About three meters.
This is where Transfer comes in handy. I jump in with Transfer, use Analysis, and jump out with Transfer. Or I can stay if I think I can deal with it, like with the kijin with no magic eyes.
We never want to waste time, because nearby kijin head our way once a battle starts. I can also use my shields and Space-Time Magic to hold on until the others get to me.
“Are you sure about this? It puts a big strain on you.”
Asks Argo after the eleventh kijin is down.
“We’re taking breaks, so it’s fine.”
“Is it?”
“But I think we should go back to town. We’ve taken down all the kijin around here.”
We could move somewhere else, but we should avoid camping if we can.
I can’t get that kijin that can erase its presence out of my head.
Everyone feels the same way. While we do at least set traps, everyone’s more wary and tired than they normally would be.
We end this trip to the dungeon after five days and thirteen kijin.
