Rick and the others attack the kijin with great coordination, but it focuses on defense and blocks them all.
Then it’s Argo and the others’ turn, then Rurika’s team, but no one can deal damage.
We’ve been switching around the thirty minute mark, and also depending on how tired we are.
“Mia, how about you take a break too?”
We’ve been at it for almost four hours.
The kijin has used the Drowsiness magic eye a few times, but not Shadow or Strengthening. I guess it hasn’t felt the need to use them.
Is this boss all about protecting this room and not letting anyone through? It’s a little different from the bosses in Majolica and Fors.
Mia hesitates a little, but says she’ll rest next time it’s our turn.
I hear that, and cast the light element on Hikari. That way she’s ready in case it attacks with Shadow.
Mia also casts her blessings before moving back.
She’s been casting buffs from a little far away, but just facing the boss this whole time is tiring. She can’t let her guard down, not to mention that her nerves are on edge because she has to be able to deal with the Shadow magic eye if it uses it.
I see her retreat, and switch with Rurika’s group to fight the kijin for the third time.
I attack while predicting its moves, because I used the Memory skill, but my sword never reaches it.
Also, I can just sort of see that it has other, special… Skills aside from the magic eyes. At the very least, it has a detection skill.
I’m led to believe this because of how it dealt with Hikari, Rurika, and Sera. The air around it suddenly changed the moment they started attacking with magic energy.
Looking back, that was also when it started using the Drowsiness magic eye. The moment it looked like Sera’s attacks would hit, her movements became duller and she missed.
That leads me to believe it uses its magic eyes when it senses trouble. That means we have to corner it and force it to use them all.
Well, I assume Strengthening just makes it stronger, I’m more curious about Shadow. What effect does it have exactly?
If this monster focuses on defense, it’s very likely it will use it as a wall to block attacks and as a way to pull back quickly.
If it uses it offensively, will it try to pierce its enemies? That could be it, but I think Mia’s blessings and the light attribute can deal with that. But I shouldn’t assume I can shut it out completely, because those effects will run out if it overcomes their protection and resistance.
I make magic energy flow through my whole body to increase my physical abilities.
I can see on my status screen that my MP is slowly but surely going down. I keep checking it with Parallel Thinking while swinging my sword.
My swings are faster, but the monster expertly uses its sword and its legs to dodge.
Hikari attacks from blind spots, but it blocks with its gauntlets and sometimes uses its legs.
When I’m about to run out of MP, I think about using Conversion, but stop.
I think it’s best to leave a trump card. I’ll make the kijin think I can’t strengthen myself with magic energy anymore.
We switch with Rick’s group, and Argo’s turn follows theirs.
“Chris, do it.”
When Rurika’s turn comes around, she calls out to Chris, and she holds up her staff.
Chris starts chanting while Argo and Guilford are still near the kijin.
She’s chanting wind spirit magic.
Magic energy gathers on her staff, and it flows into Rurika and Sera.
The magic energy envelops them, and when it’s done, Mia casts her blessings and I cast the light element on them. It uses more magic energy than usual.
“Thanks.”
“…Don’t overdo it.”
Says Chris out of concern, with sweat on her forehead and her staff still held up.
Rurika gives her a little nod.
“Argo!”
She yells out, and Argo and Guilford quickly move away.
Rurika steps forward, and dashes towards the kijin like she’s flying.
It’s like she’s using Gale, but Sera is moving the same way.
I can barely keep up with them with my eyes. In fact, I only managed to do it on the last day they were practicing this. Still it’s likely that it’s less that I can see them, and more that the Memory skill remembers their moves because we crossed swords again and again.
And yet, despite seeing this for the first time, the kijin dodges Rurika’s attack and blocks Sera’s axes… No, it’s been pushed away.
I think it’s the first time since this fight started that the kijin moved back involuntarily.

Thanks for the treat.
