“Why did you call us?”
The submaster of the adventurer guild is sitting in front of us.
“I have a small quest for you.”
“Hou, a designated quest?”
The man nods.
Designated quests tend to be difficult, but profitable.
“What is it about? We’re not gonna take it if we can’t do it.”
I say, but he’s not gonna say anything unreasonable, is he? I think he can make that judgment.
This guy is more reliable than the guildmaster. I’m pretty sure even his brain is made of muscle.
Although that guy’s easier to deal with.
“It’s an investigation quest. The people that hunted goblins the other day say some might have gotten away. We need people with high enemy search abilities to check it out.”
“Hey hey, isn’t that their job?”
Does he mean that goblin hunting quest that was there for over a month?
The reward was way too small, so even newbies wouldn’t give it a second look. Not to mention that it didn’t specify how many goblins there were.
“Apparently they fought over fifty goblins, and came back with forty-six corpses. And there were superior species.
“Fifty? And superior species? Hey hey, if newbies accepted that they’d be killed. Shouldn’t the guild check this stuff?”
I dunno who accepted it, but it must’ve been a disaster.
Well, they must be pretty good if they managed to take out that many. Who are they?
“I can’t argue with that. But since there were superior species and there’s a chance some might have gotten away, the guild wants a proper investigation done. That’s where you come in.”
I get it. If they don’t do something about it, the guild might lose trust. The problem is that a lot of people here focus on the dungeon.
I think only about twenty percent accept quests outside of town, like us. Well, this place is special, so most of them aren’t pure adventurers anyway.
That’s why it’s profitable for us.
After hearing what this is about, I look over to the rest of my party.
“Okay. So we need to investigate around the village, right?”
“No, go to the valley where the nest was. That will add to your reward too.”
So we’d get extra, but it’s far. I’m picturing the map in my head.
The goblins were sighted north of the village, and we’d be going west from there to the valley. That means we’d be spending a day going to the village by wagon and on foot, then half a day or maybe a day to the place where the goblins were sighted, and then four or five days to the valley? That’s about a twelve day round trip.
We can shorten that with our movement speed, but it’s a pain.
…Goblin investigation. Fine.
I signal with my eyes to my party again. We’ve been together for years, so that’s enough for us to understand each other.
“Fine. The B rank adventurer party Hawk Eye accepts this quest.”

“Should we do some shopping and then leave?”
We buy more food, go home, and store the drinks we already had in our item bags.
Once that’s done, we go to the stable and get on a wagon. The guild is supplying it, so we can leave any time we want.
We’ll reach the forest before the sun sets if we leave now, but we might reach the village today if we hurry.
That’s gonna be a problem for the driver that has to drop us off and come back during the night, but that’s none of our business.
When we get off the wagon, we tell the driver to come pick us up in ten days. It could be sooner, but even we’re gonna take that long to go around. I’m sure the guy gets it too.
We fast walk to the village, and reach it within the day.
They’re surprised about the guild’s quest, but we’re taken to the chief’s house.
The village itself is lonesome. Just thinking about spending the night here leaves me dejected.
I was thinking I need a good night’s rest since we’re going to be camping for over a week, but I don’t think I’m gonna get it here.
We’re not even really welcome here. They give us the minimum amount of food they can get away with, and a place where we can kinda sleep.

“H-hum…”
“Yes, just take us where they were sighted.”
The next morning, a hunter who saw the goblins takes us to that location.
I don’t sense anything. I turn to our mage, who casts search magic… And shakes his head.
“We’re gonna head west. We don’t know what’s there, so don’t come here until we return. It’d be a big problem if something happened. Got it?”
I say, and the hunter returns after saying they’ll hunt in the east for a while.
Thanks for the update, & the way the setting is for this adventure party i don’t think they are going to make it back home, & what’s going on with this village, living so close to these goblins and not getting attacked, anyway i guess we’ll find out more in the next few chapters.
