Walking in another world – Chapter 719 – Movers

A quiet funeral service takes place, and apparently the dead will be cremated at a later date.

News of the damage the army took and their rout spread quickly through the town, expanding the anxiety.

Perhaps to ease that, it’s announced that the army was dispatched to the capital, and the adventurer guild is asking other guilds to put out urgent quests.

I don’t know if that’s really to make the citizens feel more at ease, but if they have any sense of danger, they’ll do what they’re announcing.

But even if reinforcements come, it won’t be right away. The army can’t be mobilized immediately, and no one knows if adventurers will accept it.

Also, the trend among adventurers has changed after the army was attacked. Some are making preparations to leave, but some stopped. And there are adventurers accepting the quest from the guild. Not to hunt goblins, but to protect the town.

That’s why there are now adventurers among the guards on the walls.

The relationship between adventurers and guards is definitely not good, but they aren’t clashing.

“It feels like holding out during a siege, but it won’t last long.”

Whispers Argo as he watches them.

The biggest issue is food. Many towns in countries other than Borsheil produce their own food to a certain extent. Of course, there are exceptions like the capitals of Elesya and the Holy Kingdom, but those are rare.

But in the empire, food typically comes from outlying villages. And from monsters hunted nearby.

That means they have to get their food from outside.

“The problem is, will there be another attack on the road that leads to the capital? If that road can’t be used, they’ll have to get supplies from Zuirya.”

The path from Zuirya to Avid is in a forest.

It’s hard for wagons to traverse it, and I heard there are many strong monsters there.

“How about we stop by the guild tomorrow and think about what to do?”

I feel like everyone’s a step behind in many ways, but it can’t be helped.

Argo and the others are worried about Herc’s clan, but they’re concerned about us too.

If we leave town no questions asked, who knows when we’ll be able to come here and use the dungeon again.

If we antagonize them, they might very well refuse to let us in. Part of me thinks they wouldn’t go that far, but it might happen in the empire.

There’s also the issue of the goblins. We feel like we just can’t be proactive. And then something happens as if laughing at us.

◇◇◇

It’s night, when everyone is sleeping, and the bodies waiting in the church to be cremated start moving.

The priest is the first to notice. In his surprise he casts Purification, but he is killed by the moving corpses… The zombies.

The next to notice are the ones patrolling the town at night.

The church is set on fire, and they encounter the zombies when they run towards it.

There are about thirty walking corpses and only a group of two people patrolling, but they blow on their whistles to signal an emergency.

Both lose their lives before reinforcements arrive, but the echoing whistles wake up those who hear them.

Someone is approaching the town. The first to notice is an adventurer on top of a wall.

The adventurer warns that there will be no entry into town at this time, but the people he’s talking to are wearing dirty hoods, which hide their faces. There are eight, and their suspicious appearance heightens the tension.

The fact that there just happens to be a commotion going on inside helps that.

In this tense atmosphere, the ones who are warned heed the warning and stop, sitting down right there on the road.

It seems like an indication that they will wait until morning when the gate opens.

The adventurers watching them breathe a sigh of relief… And then there’s a scream.

One goes down. There’s a sword-wielding monster behind him… A goblin.

He was caught completely off guard.

But that’s not the only one. Goblins suddenly appear on the walls and on the other side of the gate. And they attack the people who stopped due to their surprise.

Ones who can’t react in time go down one after the other, while some counterattack.

Between the sounds of weapons clashing, a bell can be heard, signaling an emergency.

Lights turn on inside the dark town. At this point, the zombies are being cleaned up.

They are burned by ones who can use magic, leaving not even ash behind.

The ones fighting them rush to the next battlefield, contact others, or go guard other gates.

All that remains is dealing with the reason for the bell ringing. At least that’s what the people who dealt with the goblins and met up with the others thought, but the nightmare is just beginning.

After a bit, the corpses of the fallen goblins disappear, and new goblins appear at the same time. These are somewhat stronger than normal goblins, but not that big of a deal. At least under normal circumstances.

The goblins attack with no fear of death, and revive after being killed. And they attack single targets in groups.

They swing their weapons not even caring if other goblins are in the way, killing both them and their targets.

The guards and adventurers start to be pushed back, but manage to hold their ground as reinforcements keep coming.

And in front of them, the closed gate slowly opens.

It seems chapters are usually uploaded around 21:00 GMT, not 18:00 GMT like the site says. Maybe a little before 2100, like 20:30. But I’ve checked at the time and seen them not uploaded yet. Any reason for this? It’s this the new schedule or something?
