Golden Sword… One of the five big clans in the Borsheil Empire, that works mainly in the capital.
It’s known for having many members who didn’t become successors of nobles.
Because of this, a lot of their members tend to look down on others, and people make fun of them by saying they’re the embodiment of the empire.
Although not when they can hear them.
One thing is certain, since they learn swordsmanship from a young age, most of them are skilled. There are weak ones, but I heard they quit after some time.
“Why are they here?”
Asks Argo with a frown.
“Because they see a lucrative opportunity? A chance to create a big debt.”
Says Guilford.
But despite this not seeming like the time when Golden Sword would appear, they start mowing down monsters. Some try to mount a counterattack, but are taken down.
This draws even the ones facing us towards them, but they also become stains on their swords.
Their momentum doesn’t stop, and they rush into the building where monsters are coming from.
I hear metallic sounds and roars, but that subsides after thirty minutes.
Golden Sword yells victoriously, and declares all the monsters are down.
“Can we check inside?”
Asks a soldier.
Some members of Golden sword who hear it have a menacing air to them, but one who seems to be a leader nods, not looking concerned.
This person probably understands that this is the army’s job.
The ones who look menacing probably don’t understand that and think the soldiers are trying to find faults in their work.
“Can we go too? We have acquaintances inside.”
Argo takes this opportunity.
“…Do as you please. It’s probably no good.”
The cold response doesn’t show much interest, but it’s not negative either.
I follow the soldiers with Argo and Guilford. We don’t all go because we don’t want to attract attention. The girls in particular would attract a lot of attention for sure.
Hikari doesn’t complain this time, because she’s aware of that.
It’s horrible in the building, and I almost throw up. There’s blood all over, and lumps of flesh that lost their original shape.
“This is terrible.”
“Yes, but I don’t see a single monster corpse.”
I try casting Analysis while I hear Argo and Guilford, but I can’t even appraise.
It works on some corpses that have some of their original form left, and by that I mean they still have a head and torso, but I can count those on my hands.
“What do you think, Sora?”
“If monsters didn’t do this, I’d say it was over…”
We can’t know for certain until we discover who did it.
“So there was a blacksmith here too.”
I see tools needed for smiting spread around.
“This was a mansion used by nobles, but I heard they went under and had to sell it. Apparently they were up to terrible things. But that was thirty years ago.”
I look around, and one of the soldiers responds.
Apparently the former owner of this mansion bought up slaves, kept them in the basement, and did some gruesome things.
“…What happened to that basement?”
“I heard it was buried.”
I ask, and get a proper response.
“Do you think the culprit ran to that basement?”
Whispers Guilford, and we stop.
It would make sense for someone doing something so dangerous to have a secret escape route.
Maybe we’re overthinking it, but once that thought enters my mind, my imagination starts running in a bad way.
Some soldiers turn pale, most likely thinking the same as me.
“I-I’ll check!”
One of them runs outside. Who is he going to check with… The feudal lord?
But it will take time to investigate. If someone did run away, it will be too late for sure.
Then again, we’re not going to find anything by looking around blindly. This place is big.
I have one option. I call up my status screen and check my skill points.
It’s getting hard to level up Walking, but I have ten skill points.
I look through the list of skills to find what I need and find two that might be useful.
Detection and See Through.
Detection is mainly used to find items in dungeons.
Can this be used to find treasure chests? If I use it along with Map I might be able to get all the items I want. I’ve been using Appraisal to look for ore in the dungeon here, but will Detection show them to me?
Apparently it can be used to find fruit and medicinal herbs too.
It doesn’t work if they’re too far away, but it looks like the range gets wider as the skill levels up.
See Through has the effect to look for hidden things, like traps in a dungeon. Apparently it shows stuff like the weak points of monsters too.
Both cost one skill point to learn. Should I go with See Through first? If there’s a hidden passage, I could see it with this.
I use one skill point, and learn the See Through skill
