When I woke up, something felt off.
I immediately understood what. My hands, my feet, my body, were green.
My missing right arm had meat in it too.
When I touched it, it felt soft.
What happened… I was strangely calm.
I picked up the staff from the ground, and the rusty sword the small one had.
I needed to get stronger. I needed to kill to get stronger. I understood that for some reason.
But the strong didn’t go down easily. And there were a lot.
I had to move carefully.
First I looked for them, goblins.
Goblins… The general term for what I killed the other day.
When I woke up, my body turned into the body of a goblin, and I gained memories and knowledge too.
Apparently goblins moved in groups. The one I killed was a part of one that explored around here.
I headed to the goblin settlement I learned from those memories.
Not to meet up, just to check. Whether or not those memories were correct would change what I did afterwards
There were several goblin settlements around there, some friendly, some hostile.
Deeper into the forest were violent beings like orcs.
“What to do…”
I said what I thought. Even I was surprised, because I didn’t expect a voice to come out of me.
I decided to use that.
First, attack goblins from a settlement.
I learned that they periodically explored around, and attacked when they did. I knew their routes to a certain extent, so I used that too.
I waited still until that day came.
Two things didn’t change when I became a goblin. I didn’t get hungry and didn’t sleep.
But one thing improved. I didn’t suffer when the sun came up anymore.
That meant I could work a lot more.
I got ready, waited in one of the routes, and whistled.
That was the signal agreed upon in the settlement.
Goblins were drawn by the sound, and I used a trap to kill them.
Once I reduced their numbers a bit, I targeted another settlement.
I knew I was getting stronger the more goblins I killed.
Then one day, I met ones I couldn’t forget.
Now I know they’re called humans.
I observed how these humans moved. They were weak compared to the one I fought before, but I knew it would be hard for me to beat them.
If only I could fight one on one… I decided to use the ones in the forest.
Goblins wouldn’t do, but what about orcs?
I might be able to take down orcs while they fought humans.
I checked where the humans were going, and began to lead orcs there.
Orcs were strong, but I had them beat in speed. And I could boost that even more by passing through tight spaces between trees.
Also, I didn’t need to sleep, but I did need to rest a little. Still, I had more stamina than before.
With a plan in my mind, I headed to the orcs’ territory.
◇ ◇ ◇
“Orcs!?”
A human’s surprised voice echoed in the forest, and it got the howl of an orc in response.
Goblins in the middle of that were confused and panicked.
There were a lot on the ground, and that area was a sea of blood.
I thought it was a waste, but bigger was better than small.
The goblins were already in trouble, but with the orcs there, it was desperate. Orcs were strong for a normal goblin.
I whistled a signal known to goblins. Run west.
The goblins looked at each other for a moment, and ran.
The humans tried to go after them, but I attacked with a bow.
Then I immediately moved. The humans looked up after the surprise attack, but I wasn’t here anymore.
“Tch. Let’s take care of the orcs.”
“There’s ten of them.”
“Let’s use the land. This place is kind of cramped. We should have the advantage.”
Hearing that made me think one of them could use his head. I should take him down first.
At the same time, I was surprised I could hear human speech. But that only lasted a moment, and I moved out.
In the end, I was the only one that was going to be standing. But I wanted to deal the finishing blows to both sides if I could.
I had to move to make use of those chances.
A fierce battle took place, and blood flew.
The humans seemed to have the advantage. They were stronger than I thought, so I figured I should help the orcs.
I held up the bow and let an arrow go towards a human about to finish off an orc.
It just barely saved the orc, which then counterattacked.
The human blocked a sword with a shield and was blown back. Another human saw that and tried to help, but was stopped by an orc.
I smiled.
Another orc went after the human that was blown away, and I quietly followed.
