Walking in another world – Chapter 744 – Avid dungeon – Part fourteen

The poison frog exits the marsh and doesn’t hesitate to attack.

Is this their behavior when they find prey, or the effect of Provoke?

It’s still a little far away, but it stretches its tongue to attack, using it to strike like a whip. I block with my shield, but feel the impact through it.

Each attack is heavy, and it attacks from various directions, so it’s hard to keep up with just the shield.

It’s one on one, but it makes it feel like I’m fighting multiple monsters.

I swing the sword with my right hand against the tongue, but it doesn’t feel like it works, because I feel it slide the moment it hits.

In fact, it moves its tongue to try to wrap around the sword, but I quickly pull it out.

As I block attacks, the others move out to attack, but slashes have no effect.

It’s not even trying to dodge slashes, they just slide the moment swords hit. It’s like they’re avoiding the poison frog’s body.

Rurika and others can’t hide their surprise.

But someone steps forward and attacks Mia. She has a spear, and uses her whole body to thrust it, making the poison frog dodge for the first time.

The others try to thrust too, but those attacks aimed at one spot can’t seem to hit.

Still, by not letting up, we eventually see big water drops on the poison frog’s body. Is that sweat from moving intensely?

When they start attacking even harder, it reaches the point where they’re falling off its body.

At the same time, some of us start losing sharpness in our movements. Especially Argo, Rick, and Harold, who are fighting in front. Although it doesn’t happen to me.

“Let’s fall back for now.”

They can see it too, and don’t push themselves too hard.

Rurika, Hikari, and Clift take their place, but the same happens to Rurika and Clift after a while.

I cast Appraisal on them, and see why.

【Condition: Paralysis (small)】

It says.

As I block attacks, I look at Sera and the others, but they don’t have it.

“Mia, have you cast Recovery on Argo and the others?”

“? No.”

I guess I was wrong.

“Rurika and Clift, stand back. You have the Paralysis status effect!”

They dodge an attack and step away. I think they reacted immediately because they also knew something was off.

But Hikari wasn’t afflicted with it. Neither was I, but I have Status Ailment Resistance.

I don’t know why Hikari wasn’t affected, but I know it’s dangerous.

“It’s okay, this much won’t do anything.”

Says Hikari before I can tell her to step away. Does she feel that?

No, maybe she was trained to resist poison when she was being brought up as a spy.

The effect is small too.

Also, if we know the origin, it’s possible to protect against it. Surely Paralysis won’t work if they have a magic item that protects them against it.

Argo and the others are back, but still, it’s pretty hard to put down despite being one monster.

This peculiarity of being resistant against slashes really works against us.

It doesn’t look like Hikari’s skill works, and maybe Wind Cutter won’t either.

And since blunt hits also don’t work, the strongest physical attacker in our party, Sera, can’t do anything.

“I’m using magic! Step away when I do.”

Chris starts chanting. She can cast it without chanting, but she’s doing it so people know what and when she’s using it.

That would reveal the timing to the enemy too if we were fighting people, but it’s okay against monsters.

I feel like she’s using the fire spell Heat Circle. This creates a circle of flames around an area, and deals damage while maintaining this field of fire.

The fire dies down eventually, but fire attacks are boosted in the meantime.

“Heat Circle!”

Once she’s done chanting, we get away from the poison frog.

The monster looks to have been caught off guard, but doesn’t stop attacking. Even as we move away, it can stretch its tongue towards us.

I block the incoming tongue with my shield, and the magic activates.

The ground lights up red under the monster, and the fire field activates around this red ground.

Since the flames go up high, you need to leave the area where the ground turns red, but the poison frog keeps attacking, not even trying to escape.

Could it be that the slime on its body protects it from fire too?

“Hikari, Projectile Slash!”

Says Chris, and Hikari immediately attacks. And the poison frog that couldn’t be damaged until now is sliced.

The poison frog is just as surprised as us.

Hikari doesn’t let that opportunity get away, and attacks three more times. One of them is fatal, cutting off its head.
