Mishyltia Prime, which is controlled by a reincarnated person, Van, has been under attack by pirates and an empire.
And so, the plan to take over a frigate with teleportation magic is underway.
I’ve asked just to check, but the empire really is Livaceno, and it’s Count Dellaovonno who’s attacking. That count is looser with money than I thought, but I guess he is a noble with three star systems.
“Vasilisa, explain this to Kori and Saratha in the living room. Van! Don’t sit on a chair! Don’t touch any of the machines!”
“I won’t, I won’t. So this is what Tortilla Double’s like.”
Won’t he wait in the cargo bay…
“Won’t he wait in the cargo bay…”
“Your inner thoughts are leaking. I need to see where we are for teleportation, and this place has windows.”
“I would not wish him in the living room.”
Says Suzuri, and Van shrugs and sits on the floor.
“Mister Van, Sumire, you cannot enter the cockpit slash living room with dirty shoes on.”
“I get it I get it. I’ll use purification magic, but aren’t you too demanding? I am the contractor here.”
“I’m starting to feel like I really don’t want to be hired as a specialist.”
“I’m just joking.”
In a few minutes, we’ll pass by the imperial frigate. The radar is already picking it up along with three combat ships.
“Wah! They really are here~~~~~. I’ll sit in the communications chair~!”
“It’s been a while. I’ll take the radar seat.”
“It has.”
“Boss, isn’t it cramped with me in here?”
“Kind of… Sorry, but can you wait in the living room? You can watch on the monitor.”
“Okay, I’ll stand by then.”
Vasilisa leaves the cockpit, Kori tells the frigate our affiliation, that Van, the ruler of this place, is on board, and demands that they stop. And of course, they don’t.
“Is that octopus lady a mage? I felt a stronger magic energy reaction than I expected.”
“Vasilisa can blow away power armors.”
“She can do that nonsense? She could use more firepower, if she meditated for at least a couple of hours a day she could sense spirits in one or two years.”
He says it’s a waste, as I watch him in my peripheral vision and Tortilla Double moves ahead.
“You say you’re going to teleport, but do you need specific coordinates? You wouldn’t end up inside a rock, right? There are missiles that jam electronic devices, so what are you doing about those?”
“The principles of shadow movement… It’s a pain to explain. Just get me close enough to be visible.”
“Got it.”
Lasers should be flying this way soon, so I tell Suzuri to activate the shield at full power.
“This is Tortilla Double, the ruler of Mishyltia orders you to stop or retreat~! If you get any closer, we cannot guarantee your survival~~~! Ugyah! Missile~!!”
I show Tortilla Double’s belly and defend with lasers while launching decoy missiles to destroy the enemy’s guided missiles. And I sway randomly while keeping an eye out for direct hits and torpedoes.
It would be weird for us to rein in the destruction and not counterattack. I drop propulsion down to one third, and start firing like the spread cannon went crazy. The enemy frigate dodges all over, but it’s still coming.
“One torpedo coming!!”
“From a combat ship? So irritating!”
I keep firing the secondary pulse lasers at positions marked on the monitor, but of course, I don’t hit them, so I take a big dive to move away from where the torpedo is predicted to hit. Their laser cannon is starting to hit my shield.
“Don’t fire torpedoes from a distance where this slow turtle can dodge them!! Saratha, keep measuring the distance between us and the frigate! Tell me when it’s under ten kilometers!”
“A regular dog fight is starting.”
“We’re gonna let the frigate get us from behind, just hang on tight, Van!”
“Shouldn’t we be getting behind them!?”
We have to let them do it first because we don’t have enough thrusters! See, the combat ships are coming up behind us! I turn the turret and fire at half power in spread mode to keep them back, but not one shot hits. I think they’re more skilled than I thought.
He’s telling me to destroy the combat ships, but I feel like if I do, the balance of power will be recalculated and the enemy frigate will run away. They must be wary of the large laser cannon turret. I just have to keep letting them stay behind me.
Meanwhile, the frigate is calmly doing big curves to predict where we’ll be so it can get behind us. So I purposefully fire the thrusters and gradually drop our speed.
“Ten kilometers! Six! Three!”
“Oh, the combat ships too? Hey.”
Van and Sumire are gone from the cockpit. I stop slowing down, and speed up to combat speed to get some distance from the frigate, but it’s still on my tail!
But then it suddenly flies vertically up, and the combat ships start doing random evasive maneuvers while moving straight ahead.
“<Genma, I took over the cockpit. We got the combat ships too, so the battle is over!>”
So the job is done.
“Got it, should we return to the station?”
“<Yes, I took all the crew prisoner, so I want to throw them in cells… What should I do with captives?>”
“Sell them to a slaver or use them yourself. Apparently you can ransom them too.”
“<Hm, I want to sell them, but we don’t get any transport ships here…>”
Don’t look at me. I don’t know how many there are, but I’m not transporting them.
“Hn? Hey Van, since you got three combat ships you weren’t expecting, increase my reward.”
“<Eeh!! It was just a coincidence! It’s two million puni! Be happy with that!>”
I look at the others in the cockpit, but I feel negativity towards negotiating for a higher reward.
“Oh well. Should I just escort the four ships back to the station?”
“<Yes please. Ah, check your account, Sumire already transferred the money.>”
“Hold on… Yes, two million. I figured it would take longer to take over a ship that is over a hundred meters long. Are you sure it’s okay?”!
“<No problem.>”
I guess there’s no room for argument. It’s fine. But don’t feel like we could deal with Van suddenly attacking.
We meet up with the defensive fleet sent by the Federation of Star Systems along the way and return to the station, where we dock.
“Well then, what now? I want to rest here for a day and leave, but I feel like we’ll get dragged into a space pirate hunt.”
“Isn’t that fine~? What’s the problem~?”
“All that is here is Van’s rest and resupply station. We cannot use puni, the repair and service station is iffy, and I wonder how they resupply torpedoes and missiles.”
“Sumire could serve as a representative of the Mercenary Guild, but I don’t think this is suited for a long stay. We can only get missiles and guided missiles, not torpedoes.”
“There’s a lot to do in a new star system nation, ya know?”
“But how did this happen? Two digits worth of space pirate bases and the empire attacking?”
At this rate, won’t Van’s station be destroyed?
“Mister Van is the sole ruler of this place, so in theory, whoever destroys the station, could claim ownership. That is what is leading the space pirates and the empire to constantly attack.”
“I want your opinions too, but we could stay here to destroy bases and hunt pirate and Imperial ships, salvage their remains, and sell them in a nearby star system.”
And Van would owe me. I don’t know if he has money, so I think it’d be hard to get an actual quest.
