I thought I was gonna die.
I watched kaiju movies when I was a kid, and thought kaiju were cool. Now that I’ve actually experienced them, I know they’re no good. Die kaiju! I thought as I felt my death was approaching.
If those kaiju were on Earth, the world would end. And I saw two of those clashing in front of me.
Nevermind my life flashing before my eyes, I even saw my grandpa alive and coming to get me.
I got dragged and dragged away, and woke up on a mountain. I’m pretty sure it was already here, but I’d believe it if I was told it was created by that clash of kaiju.
It was a fight that literally changed the landscape.
I can’t even think about beating those things. Not if I had ten thousand lives.
If you really want those things defeated, call Ultraman or give me an Ultra Eye. Not a toy, the real one.
I’m just glad to be alive.
Fuuma is scared and clinging to my back, but this time I don’t blame it.
More importantly, the remains.
Something next to the mountain, and the reason why Fuuma is scared. The corpse of the loser of the big kaiju fight, the sea turtle.
This shell that’s like a dome baseball stadium has been flipped over. There’s a fin on it, but others like the one on the neck are missing.
Its whole body is burned, and a smell I can’t describe lingers.
The acorn barnacles on its back seem to be missing from what I can see. Maybe the heat pried them off.
I’m thinking about getting a closer look, but it looks like it’s still hot. The area around it is red hot, so I can’t get close. And there’s a chance that giant snake might attack, so I need to get out of here.
With that settled, I’m about to go away, and turn my back on the seat turtle’s corpse. With Fuuma still clinging to my back.
I start walking, and a question pops into my mind.
Is that monster really dead?
Did that giant being with so much vitality and immense magic energy really die?
Even I can heal injuries, so can’t that monster that transcends reason regenerate?
Is this question a flag? Then immense magic energy bursts from the sea turtle’s corpse.
I turn around, and see water gushing out of it, which is evaporated by the heat and raises steam that blocks my vision.
I have more than a bad feeling, a chill runs down my spine. I know this is bad.
I should run, but I’m curious, so I create a tornado to clear the steam.
Now I can see the new eye.
Where the sea turtle’s head was, where the giant snake bit, a new eye is born.
It’s recovering.
Then I hear a loud beat.
I need to run fast and far.
But will that really help? This giant sea turtle is faster than Fuuma.
Won’t it just catch us when it regenerates?
Is running pointless?
What to do what to do what to do… What to do…
I activate magic circles and create rock spears. Pierce, Break, and Explosion.
I’m going for where the eye is being created, and more are popping out.
I launch a rock spear, not just once, but again and again, until I’m out of the magic energy I just recovered.
I drink a magic potion, and do it again.
The new eye is pierced, the flesh gouged, and its insides burst from where the neck was, as I keep firing magic with absolute killing intent.
I drink another magic potion, and feel explosive magic energy raging in my body threatening to burst. I focus on Magic Energy Control to keep it down, and convert it to magic.
I need to stop the regenerating cells, and pound it with magic. I infuse more magic energy to increase its power, sharpen the magic energy, and focus on Magic Energy Control to increase its speed.
I drink a third magic potion.
Blood gushes from my body and I feel like I’ll pass out, but keep it together and control magic energy. I just keep focusing on controlling it and using magic.
Fuuma also uses magic like it knows what I’m doing.
We’ve scraped it quite a bit, but the sea turtle’s magic energy is alive and well.
Still, it’s not really resisting, so we keep attacking. Maybe it lost the ability to fight back.
I compress a thin rock spear, and infuse it with a tornado.
It takes a lot of my magic energy, but its power should be massive.
The rock spear passes three magic circles, and flies past the speed of sound.
Go! I yell as I fire another.
I don’t know how much magic energy I’ve used.
I’ve been focusing on Magic Energy Circulation with Parallel Thinking, and drink my fourth magic potion. My left arm falls in tatters.
I can’t control the rampaging magic energy, and lose vision in my left eye, but I keep using magic.
I carve it bit by bit, and my consciousness feels faint as I approach the end of my magic energy.
I can’t drink more magic potions. If I do, my body won’t retain its shape.
Even if I regenerate it with Healing Magic, there won’t be a next time.
So I pray that it’s over as I fire my last magic.
I feel like I destroyed something. It’s weird when it comes to magic, but I do feel like I accomplished something.
This is proven to me when the magic energy from the giant sea turtle dissipates.
It’s over. It’s finally over. I finally ended it.
I clench my fist! Die idiot! I scream loudly.
How much trouble you gave me!!
I almost died from drinking too much magic potion!
I spent five because of you!
Do you get it!? You made me spend a million yen!
Stay down and die… It won’t regenerate again, will it?
I have a bad feeling, or rather, feel like if I really think about it, it will regenerate here.
I don’t know how long it will take, but there’s a chance it will regenerate enough.
W-w-w-w-what do I do?
Our eyes met, so will it come for revenge?
I think as I heal my body.
Will I be able to escape before it regenerates? How do I eliminate the threat of this giant monster? How do I kill it for good?
I won’t get a response by thinking about it, so I tap Fuuma, looking for advice.
Can I put it in my Storage Space, it asks.
No no, it’s alive like grandpa, so it won’t go in, I say. But when I touch it, it feels like it will.
Hey hey, seriously? I activate Storage Space, and the giant sea turtle disappears.
With the threat gone, I fall back.
The giant monster is gone, but there are more around here, so I’m still in danger, but this feeling of relief takes the strength from my body.
Fuuma sits next to me.
It’s showing that it’s hungry, probably because it’s also feeling relieved.
You did a good job this time, so I’m about to start preparing food, when a grass monster takes Fuuma away.
You! Again, I think as I run with greatsword of fortitude in hand.
◇ ◇ ◇
After taking a break, we head to the top of the mountain.
The place where we got roped into a kaiju battle is flat and green as far as the eye can see, so I don’t know where to go. I might see something from the top, but as I climb with that hope in my heart, something suddenly changes.
The sky gets darker the further up we go, and the grass around starts to wither.
I only realize night is falling when the sky gets completely dark.
