I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 132 – The Abyss V (night) – Part one

This world has night too.

It’s not weird, because the dungeon has the same time as the world outside. But here it was bright the whole time, so I was wondering if this floor was perceptually bright.

And with night, green disappears and it becomes a wasteland.

Night isn’t that dark. It’s a little brighter than a night under a full moon. I can’t see the horizon, but it’s bright enough for me to see relatively well.

Fuuma checks the ground, raises dust, and sneezes.

It’s a dark and dry environment, and the temperature has gone down enough for me to see my breath.

This is where the perpetual spring scarf shines. I get inside its area of effect by riding Fuuma, and I’m wrapped in a comfortable warmth.

Let’s go to the top, I think, but then a rock is fired from the ground behind me.

I use Earth Magic to deal with it, immediately creating a rock wall.

A dull sound echoes, the rock wall collapses, and I see the monster that threw a rock at me.

It’s peeking its head from the ground like a crocodile in brown water. And I see more, they’re all around as far as I can see.

The earth color crocodiles open their mouths.

I don’t see teeth, I see lumps of dark magic energy.

Magic energy violently wriggles inside those lumps, changes shape like they’re vomiting mud, and they turn into boulders that are sharp in front.

They activate magic circles, and fire at the same time like they’re sharing one consciousness.

I try to stay calm, and go uoh as I make a rock wall.

Then another, then another, and they’re destroyed as I build them.

I just attacked the sea turtle with magic, and now it’s the opposite. And I don’t have much magic energy left.

I’ve been using Magic Energy Circulation after I stored the sea turtle, but I didn’t recover much.

This isn’t good. I kick Fuuma’s stomach for it to run, and it dashes away.

Earth Magic is good for offense and defense, but its drawback is the short range. Of course, it can be increased with more magic energy, but it still gets weaker.

I can use magic circles to make up for that, but the crocodiles don’t… They do.

Run Fuuma run, I say as I create walls behind me. It’d be nice if I blocked everything with them and escaped, but the earth color crocodiles are swimming in the ground behind me.

They’re fast, and we can’t pull away even with Fuuma’s speed.

Fuuma uses Wind Magic to increase its mobility, and runs like it’s dashing in the air.

I turn around, thinking that will get us away from them, but they also speed up, and I can see them jumping from the ground.

They do have crocodile heads, but fish bodies.

What is this!?

I look closer, and see they look like tuna. Now’s not the time, but they look tasty.

As I think about nonsense, the monsters fire magic. But Fuuma slowly gains distance, and flies.

Wait wait, why are you flying?

It’s hard to tell how far we are from the ground because it’s dark, but I complain to Fuuma that it’s dangerous. But Fuuma goes even higher.

I can feel eyes.

I look up to see what it is, and see the moon.

The white shining moon. The center is black and looks like an eye.

I tell myself that can’t be right.

No, that’s too far.

I can’t believe that giant moon eye belongs to a monster.

There would be no hope of survival for me if that was a monster several times larger than the giant sea turtle.

The giant moon in the sky moves.

The black part looks me in the eyes.

Life disappears.

That’s what it feels like as my body stiffens with fear.

I can’t run, move, or even breathe, I just look up and let gravity take me down.

Wouldn’t falling to my death be easier, I think as we go down.

The moon turns away like it lost interest, and disappears like it hides in a shadow.

I breathe again, and create wind to cushion my fall. Fuuma still isn’t moving, so I grab it with my legs, but I can’t completely kill the momentum and crash into the ground, rolling to shield Fuuma.

I use my remaining magic energy to heal and get up.

My mind is hazy, and I feel like I’m forgetting something. I shake my head, and see crocodile monsters out of the corner of my eye.

That’s right, they were chasing me.

I remember that as I look at them dead on the ground.

It’s clear why they died. They chose it when that moon, that huge eye, looked at them.

The proof is that all the monsters had their heads popped off with magic. They did that. Much like how I chose to fall to my death, they killed themselves with magic.

I would’ve joined them for sure if I was under the influence of the eye for a bit longer.

Fuuma is still in a stupor, and in no condition to return.

I don’t know what that eye did. Before I knew it, I chose death. It was like brainwashing, like my will was overwritten.

Scary.

I don’t want to go through that again.

There’s no guarantee I’ll be saved next time.
