I knew it when I was in the air, but when I reach the top of the mountain, I see a mountain range.
Rugged mountains without roads where people can pass. Nothing but bare mountain.
If I’m going to move here, it will have to be with magic.
Fuuma can’t climb cliffs either. With mountains this rugged, Wind Magic is the way to go. Fuuma’s good at that, so I’ll leave it to it.
But Fuuma still hasn’t recovered.
I cast Healing Magic on it, and it’s physically well, but it’s still in a stupor because of the giant eye.
We should rest somewhere, but I haven’t found a good place.
I could dig another hole, but sadly, I’m practically out of magic energy.
I’m trying to recover with Magic Energy circulation, but since I use it as soon as I recover, I don’t have enough to dig a hole.
If a monster attacks, I’m finished, I think, but thankfully I guess, this is a hellish landscape with monster corpses everywhere I go.
In a wide area, there are scorpions bigger than people, bats with pointy mouths, two-headed deer, and many other kinds of monster lying around. Some are humanoid too.
It’s not that there are that many of them, but thinking about how that eye monster did this makes me think it’s a miracle we’re alive.
Luckily, when I go down the first mountain and climb the next one, I find a cave.
It’s dark, and I can’t see ahead, but after I finish analyzing it with Spatial Grasp, I see it’s not that big.
At the end of this not very deep cave, is the remains of something.
At a glance it’s a skeleton with dirty armor, but I don’t feel the hostility and magic energy I would get from a monster, so this was definitely a person.
It was probably a fellow seeker who met an end here.
I crouch down and activate a magic circle, creating a small light.
I can still spend that much magic energy.
I put my hands together, and then take a notebook from this man or woman.
I look inside, but sadly, it’s too worn out for me to read most of it.
What I read tells me this person fell here, allies were killed one after the other, and in the end, only this person remained.
And this person wrote this with trembling hands to be delivered to someone.
It’s a quest for any seeker that comes here, and the reward is the equipment.
I exhale and put the notebook in my Storage space. But as I’m about to touch the skeleton, the remaining bones crumble into nothing, as if their job has been done.
Good grief. You put out this quest, but I don’t know if we’ll get out alive either.
This person was better equipped, was in a group, and they still fell here, so what chance do we have?
Well, I’ll struggle to the end. And if that’s no good, I’ll just have to give up.
I put my hands together again, and put the equipment in my Storage Space.
Now I’ve accepted the quest. Let’s see how that ends.
Pray for my success, I say to the person that left us long ago.
There’s nothing else in the cave, so I’ll rest and move on. I start preparing food, as Fuuma is still in the same condition. If it doesn’t change, it might be a good idea to forcibly end the summoning.
I want to avoid losing combat power, but this is not a place I’ll survive with something holding me back.
Come to think of it, that notebook had the name of this place.
An inescapable world of demise, The Abyss.
At least that was what was written in his, Teruki Amatsu’s, notebook.
Sure enough, Fuuma regains its senses after smelling the food.
Orb (eyeball monster)
A hundred meter spherical body. This nasty monster creates a gigantic phantom, and uses illusions to cause the status conditions fear, hypnosis, domination, and curse that makes others end their lives.
Orb’s body is strong, and it can use various spells. It is particularly adept at using Spatial Magic to move.
*A calamity tier monster that once attempted to destroy a world somewhere but failed.
