“Stop! Put down your weapon! Do you understand!?”
Ameriko issued a stern warning while pointing her gun, and the girl that came from the grassy field stopped.
She seemed very much surprised to see Ameriko. Although Ameriko thought this girl looked suspicious, she figured she was probably not the leader of the goblins, since she showed no signs that she would suddenly attack her.
“Eh!? Ah!? …Hum…?”
The girl was bewildered, and Ameriko wondered if she even understood what a gun was.
Ameriko tried approaching her slowly, while keeping the gun pointed at her.
She figured securing this girl would allow her to learn about this world.
“Ok. Don’t move!”
Ameriko slowly got within ten meters of the girl while carefully looking around to see if any goblins were waiting to attack.
She looked closely at the girl, and figured she looked to be in her early to mid teens. This girl had a pretty face, but her chest was flat, so one could think she was a boy at a glance. However, Ameriko then thought her figure was very feminine… And it was at this point that she realized this was not the time to be thinking about this.
Her face turned red as she became aware of her attraction to another girl.
“C-can you put the gun down…”
She used the word gun, which told Ameriko they came from the same place.
She was wearing something that resembled what Ameriko knew as a ‘kimono’, but not quite the same. The sleeves were large, and she wore what appeared to be a scarlet skirt with a belt wrapped around it. On the sleeves and shoulders were big seams that looked like ribbons.
She was Asian, with her black hair and yellowish skin, and held a blade in one hand.
The blade pattern on this sword was beautiful, like a Japanese sword one would see in a museum. However, the tip of the sword was bloody, and Ameriko could not tell if it was goblin or human blood.
The girl realized what Ameriko was looking at, and rushed to say ‘No! I didn’t kill’, with a vague, supplicant smile on her face.
It all seemed suspicious, but more importantly, Ameriko found everything about her, from the air around her to her movements to be somewhat odd. She felt as though this girl was a Japanese anime character, and not something that should exist in reality.
“The blade. Put down the sword!”
Said Ameriko with a strong tone while gripping her gun. The girl then raised her hands, and responded with a picture perfect smile.
“Ah! I, am, Japanese! Japanese! Yes! Okay!? This, is, a, pen!”
“That, is, a, sword!”
Ameriko instinctively responded, but something stuck out to her. The girl called herself Japanese.
The light smile in a tense situation was the classic ‘Japanese smile’, and her English sounded odd. There was no doubt about it, she was Japanese.
“Japanese…?”
“Yes! Hello! Hello! Konichiwa!”
The girl lowered her head, and spoke one word at a time for some reason.
“Ah… I’m American. So you’re Japanese?”
“Yes, I am Japan. Love and peace!”
Said the girl with a flirtatious smile while making a peace sign.
“What’s your name?”
“Hi-Himeno! Doguzuka Himeno.”
“…Prime-minister Doguzuka?”
“Yes yes… Prime-minister? Oh? You…”
“I am Ameriko. I came from America.”
“America!? A-Ameriko… President!?”
They finally recognized each other. They looked physically different, but they were in fact the president of the United States and the prime-minister of Japan.
The tension in the air dissipated, and when Ameriko lowered her gun, the sword in Himeno’s hand vanished.
“The weapons…?”
At the same time, Ameriko’s gun also turned into particles of light and disappeared.
It seemed this summoning mechanism responded to a sense of danger and enmity.
“So you’re Japan…”
“And you America… Fuee…”
Himeno started crying, and Ameriko approached her while feeling a little confused.
“You! That pendant…!”
“Sniff… This? This appears to be a crystallized record of the Japanese archipelago.”
The pendant hanging from Himeno’s neck shined. From Ameriko’s point of view, it was shaped like a strange, bent rain drop.
“I have one too.”
“You do…!?”
Ameriko showed Himeno her own shining pendant, and both looked at each other.
A part of the world was sealed in them, and they realized after some discussion that it was the same mechanism.
“So basically, this was created when we flew into this world, right? I guess we could say that our countries, our people, and our entire history was crystallized…”
“That is the only explanation. Maybe there is some deeper meaning.”
Said Himeno quietly, with a docile expression.
Her speech sounded old, and had a strange intonation. With her thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, and round pupils, she looked very girly and cute. Ameriko started looking at her face instead of the pendant without realizing it.
“W-what?”
“…Nothing. It’s like an archive of our countries and people. A snapshot of our countries. We should leave it at that for now.”
“I see.”
Both still knew very little, and there was no doubt that they were confused.
Their memories and consciousness as president and prime-minister were vague. It was as though these two people were made in their country’s image, with part of a single personality as their core.
In any case, Japan and America reunited, and there was a lot they would not understand no matter how much they thought about it.
Their memories were fuzzy, so they would have to exchange what little information they had and do a lot of thinking. If nothing else, they seemed to have plenty of time.
“Ahh… So what do we do now?”
“Good question…”
Both looked around them.
The wind was blowing gently, shaking the green meadow in a wave-like fashion.
It was very quiet
The sun was starting to set, and the three moons in the sky started to change color.
Ameriko put out her hand.
“In any case, nice to meet you again, Himeno.”
“S-same here, Ameriko.”
Himeno grabbed Ameriko’s hand with a relieved expression, and they shook hands firmly.
The hand of another human felt warm. It was a little sweaty, but this made it feel even more human, and reassuring.
“I’m glad you’re the first human I found, Himeno.”
Said Ameriko with a natural smile. Perhaps due to feeling more relaxed, it seemed her human emotions were returning.
“I feel the same way. I’m glad it was a girl like you, Ameriko.”
Said Himeno with a vaguely embarrassed smile. However, this seemed genuine, as opposed to the Japanese smile from earlier.
“You’re right Himeno…”
Ameriko agreed with Himeno on that. She would be scared if she found herself alone with a man when she was so disoriented. He could even give into his lust and assault her.
“By the way…”
It seemed Himeno was having trouble saying something, as she fidgeted and looked at Ameriko.
“What?”
“Well, I mean, you… You are like a heroine straight out of an American comic book.”
“Eh?”
“Is it just me?”
“Fah!?”
Himeno crossed her arms and adorably tilted her head like an anime character.
Their impressions of each other were very much influenced by their preconceived notions, including the differences in their cultures.
